Research Status Of Traditional Chinese Medicine In Prevention And Treatment Of Colorectal Cancer

colorectal cancer is the most common digestive tract malignant tumor.Even though various clinical treatment,like surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy are avaiable, 50% of patients with colorectal cancer are accompanied by hepatic metastasis, and 60-90% of them die of hepatic metastasis.The traditional Chinese medicine is proved to hold a superior position in the treatment of colorectal cancer. In addition to oral decoction, both enema, acupuncture, external application of Chinese medicine and Chinese medicine bath can offer good therapeutic effect. Based on the thory of traditional Chinese medicine, the pathogeny of colorectal cancer is dysfunction of qi, blood, yin,yang and internal organs; besides,both phlegm, dampness, heat, toxic, blood stasis are act as incentives of colorectal cancer. After surgery or radiotherapy, healthy Qi coexist with pathogenic factors in varying degrees. Patients in the early stage of colorectal cancer have enough healthy Qi and weak pathogenic factors while those in the late stage show weaker healthy Qi and strong pathogenic factors. To strength healthy Qi the emphasis should be given on tonifying spleen, and to eliminate the pathogenic factors the emphasis should begiven on cleaning out dampness, heat, blood stasis and toxicity. Recently the clinical and experimental studies have proved many erbal medicines can inhibit relapse and metastasis of colorectal cancer though strengthening the body’s immunity, eliminating dampness and sputum, removing blood stasis,clearing heat,and detoxifying. And traditional Chinese medicine can also improve the patients’ quality of life, relieve pain,enhance the effects of chemtherapy while decrease its side effects.The purpose of this paper is to summarizes the status of Chinese medicine in prevention and treatment of colorectal cancer, improve further clinical research and enhance the clinical efficiency.
