Objective:To describe the burden and anxiety of the caregivers of scoliosis in hospital and analysis its important influenced factors. To investigate the relationship between caregiver burden and anxiety. To provide the basis for health care workers to take effective methods which were used to reduce caregivers burden and improve the symptoms of anxiety. Methods:This study used descriptive research method. According to the inclusion criteria I collected the scoliosis patients and their primary caregivers in 169 cases in July,2014-January, 2016 in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province. A self designed questionnaire was used to investigate the general conditions of patients with scoliosis and their primary caregivers.Caregiver Burden Inventory(CBI) was used to investigate the caregiver burden of the primary care. Anxiety levels were investigated using the self rating Anxiety Scale(SAS).The data were analyzed by SPSS13.0. The mean, standard deviation and the proportion were used to describe the data. T-test, ANOVA and multiple linear regression were used to analysis the influenced factors of caregiver burden and anxiety. The correlation between caregiver burden and anxiety was showed by Pearson correlation.Results:(1)The average score of caregivers, burden was 42.40±11.52. It was moderate. The primary caregivers burden of degenerative scoliosis patients was less than the burden with idiopathic scoliosis and congenital scoliosis. The main factors affecting caregiver burden were the anxiety of the caregivers, daily care time, monthly income, the number of the caregivers and the gender of caregiver.(2)The score of caregivers anxiety was 61.00± 7.45, of which 94.08% primary caregivers have anxiety with different degrees. The main factors affecting caregivers anxiety were the bending degree, the hospitalization days, the degree of education and the type of scoliosis.(3)The burden and the anxiety of the primary caregivers were positively correlated. Conclusion:The main caregivers were under moderate load when the scoliosis patients were in the hospital. Aiming at this phenomenon, medical staff should also take attention to the group of caregivers, in addition to the patients in the daily nursing work. And the health care workers should analysis the reasons which caused the burden, then they should take targeted measures to intervene. Ultimately the ability of care were improved and the burden were reduced.
