Objective:Nasal polyp is a common disease in clinical, with nasal mucosal inflammatory hyperplasia. However, it’s molecular mechanism is largely unknown. Tumor suppressor genes, proliferation and apoptosis related genes and cytokines play important roles in the formation and pathological development of nasal polyps. The expression level of tumor suppressor related proteins and receptors is not constant, and high level of these expression can stimulate nasal mucosal proliferation, while low or lacking expression may facilitate nasal polyp’s cells apoptosis. Both proliferation and apoptosis make a big difference in nasal polyp’s formation and development. This article concluded the relationships between new progressions in pathogenesis and tumor suppressor genes and proliferation apoptosis genes in nasal polyps, which not only helps practitioners deeply and comprehensively understand its pathogenesis but promotes explorations to effective therapeutics for nasal polyps.Method:Electronic database including CNKI, Wan Fang, PubMed were searched to identify eligible studies. Search term “nasal polyps”, “tumor suppressor”, “cell apoptosis” and “cell proliferation” were applied. Thenthe related publications were gathered to analyzed and summarized. Results:Proliferation genes(PCNA, Ki-67, Livin), apoptosis genes(Bcl-2,Bax, Fas/FasL, Livin/SMAC), and other genes(MMPs, TGF beta1, VEGF,GM-CSF, COX-2, EGF) were involved in the formation of nasal polyps. While, the tumor suppressor genes(P53, PTEN) inhibited nasal polyp cells unlimited proliferation and malignant transformation. In this process, imbalance of cell proliferation and apoptosis, and the imbalance between synthesis and degradation of extracellular matrix, eventually lead to the formation of nasal polyp and its tissue remodeling. Conclusion:Tumor suppressor genes, proliferation and apoptosis genes, growth factor and cytokine genes in nasal polyps interact with each other during the occurrence and development of nasal polyps, which is of great significance for its clinical prevention and treatment.
