Bronchial asthma(asthma) is a multicellular participated chronic airway inflammation, including eosinophils, mast cells, neutrophils, airway epithelial cells, Characterized with the presence of reversible airflowlimitation, repeated episodes of wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, coughing and other symptoms. Majority of asthma patients with the both administration of anti-inflammatory drugs and bronchodilators can effectively relieve asthma symptoms. About 5% to 10% of asthma patients even if given multiple drug combination therapy are still difficult to control symptoms, we called this part of asthma is refractory asthma(refractory asthma, RA). But it consumes a lot of health resources, which rising cost of asthma year by year. Therefore, there is an urgent need to improve the clinician’s level about the awareness of RA, improve the doctor-patient relationship, which may reduce the number of acute episodes and improve the quality of life of patients. We will re-discussed epidemic, definitions, clinical phenotypes, pathophysiology, treatment status and new progress of the RA in this article to help us better understanding RA.
