Forty-seven Chinese and Japanese literatures were analyzed, respectively. We found differences in the year of earliest literature were published, the profession of first authors, and the properties of the literatures.2. By KJ method, the contents of Chinese literatures were divided into 4 main themes,10 sub themes(1), 29 sub themes(2), and 128 codes. The current states and problems of Japanese literatures were divided into 7 main themes, 25 sub themes(1), 58 sub themes(2),and 112 codes. The countermeasures of Japanese literatures were divided into 4 main themes, 8 sub themes(1), 39 sub themes(2), and 53 codes.3. The comparison of palliative care between China and Japan were discussed from similarities, differences and their merits. Results showed that both in China and Japan, holistic care to patients and grief care to families are done, and there are enhancements of knowledge and abilities of medical workers in two countries. However China is a multi-ethnic country, customs are complex, there are many difficulties in IC and Death Education.Conclusions:1. The hospice and palliative care of China started late relatively, but so far it has made considerable development. At the same time, hospice and palliative care to patients and their families are done in China, but there are some shortcomings of the medical workers and medical system of China. The concepts and modes of hospice and palliative care were imported from other countries, and there are some difficulties in implementation. Therefore, to build a local model of hospice and palliative care combined with Chinese cultures is very necessary.2. Although the hospice and palliative care of Japan are facing with some problems, the whole state have gone into a virtuous cycle. And some traditional concepts of Japan were developed, some traditional measures were took, the traditional model of hospice and palliative care of Japan was formed basically.According to the comparison of hospice and palliative care of China and Japan, there are some difficulties in the development of hospice and palliative care, such as IC, at thesame times, these problems are same with the situation of China, so it is worthwhile for China to learn from Japan in their successful experience of palliative care.
