In recent years,with the aging of the population is becoming increasingly serious,as well as the increasing demand for the quality of death by the society,the demand for hospice care is rocketing.While in China,the quality of hospice care is poor,and there is has no officially published laws and regulations related to this kind of special medical services,as well as the architectural buildings.With the rapid development of reform and opening up and socialist market economy,every year,the number of Chinese studying,working,and living overseas is climbing.This part of Chinese people need palliative care services.Therefore,this is an urgent need to have a hospice with background of Chinese culture.This paper is based on the literature review and the research of the existing hospice cases to explore the hospice design within a Chinese cultural background in Chinatown in order to serve Chinese people overseas.The existing hospice regards the late-stage patients as the main service object,in this paper,the main research direction is to break the limitation of the ordinary hospice service.The popularity of modern hospice in society is quite low,this paper will focus on the hospice design to increase the openness of the architecture and to emphasize the important of hospice care to the public.In the meantime,increase the hospice care services for bereaved families to help them step out of the loss of their loved ones.Through the analysis and research of the architectural design system and materials to design the Chinese background hospice architecture model.By the research and analysis of the specific function space of medical building to shape the space to meet to needs of users.The purpose of this paper and the design is to make the architecture to "defend man at his weakness".This paper is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction part,mainly introduce the background and history of hospice,the present situation of hospice in China,as well as the purpose and research approach of this paper.The second chapter introduces the general situation of the project,briefly describes the location,site,population of the project and the design concept.The third chapter is the main research.Analyzing the aim of design hospice architecture,the design handbook of hospice,the feasibility of the combination of hospice medical building and China courtyard housing system,and the subject of the design scheme of basic research and conceptual design.The fourth chapter is an in-depth study of six specific space of the hospice design.The specific research and analysis in the public entrance space,waiting area,main hall,exhibition space,transitional space and family healing space of the Chinese hospice in Chinatown.The last chapter is the technical drawings and renderings of the design project,including the overall plane,the planes of each level,the main sections and the renders of specific spaces.
