Objectives:To establish preliminary epidemiological data on contraceptive knowledge related to postpartum women in Miyun and to provide the basis for the future development of contraceptive education, to explore suitable intervention model for the primary hospital postpartum women of childbearing age in family planning services.Methods: A retrospective study was conducted through questionnaires among puerperants in Miyun County Hospital and Miyun County Maternal and child health hospital from August 2015 to December 2015. We established the epidemiological data of the contraceptive knowledge about postpartum women in Miyun District. The study included basic information about the women enrolled, knowledge about contraception, use of contraceptive measures, access to contraceptives, and the need for family planning services.The database was established by Epidata 3.1, analyzed by SPSS for windows verson 19.0. Statistical methods include frequency distribution, constituent ratio, analysis of variance, P <0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results: The average score of contraceptive knowledge of 715 women being investigated was 41.5 + 20.4 points(score = actual scores /67*100), of which only 18.3% score 60 points or more; Age under 25 years old scores the lowest average of 35.2 + 18.5 points, score differences among age groups was statistically significant; Score of non-agricultural household women was higher than that of agriculture accounts women, the difference was statistically significant; The higher the education and income, the higher the average score, the difference was statistically significant; The score of mental labor group was higher than that of physical labor group and special occupational group, the difference was statistically significant; No significant difference between the number of pregnancies and the number of parturition. There were 143 unexpected pregnancy because of with no contraception, there were 101 cases of contraceptive failure because of incorrect use of conception. Among them, 554 cases(77.5%) believed that it was necessary to carry out contraceptive and birth control. The contraception they taken previously included: condoms(542 cases, 78.1%), rhythm(143 cases, 20.6%), intrauterine device(100 cases, 14.4%), coitus interruptus(96 cases, 13.8 %), emergency contraception(40 cases, 5.8%), oral contraceptives(37 cases, 5.3%), LAM(28 cases, 4.0%), injectable(7 cases, 1.0%), implants(4 cases, 0.6%).Conclusions:(1) Postpartum women lack postpartum contraception-related knowledge.(2) Most postpartum women had general demands on contraceptive counselingservices.
