Objective:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of modified PipaQingfei decoction combined with rehabilitation paste dressing in treatingmild to moderateacne vulgaris.Methods:90patients withmild to moderate acne of syndrome ofwind-heat invading the lung according to TCM syndrome differentiation were randomly divided into three groups.30 patients in group A were treated with modified PipaQingfei decoction combined with rehabilitation paste dressing,30 patients in group B were treated with modified PipaQingfei decoction only, and at the same time,30 patients in group C were treated with rehabilitation paste dressing only. At last,89 patients completed the study, and only one patient in group C dropped out. Efficacy was evaluated at the baseline and at the end of 4-week treatment. After the treatment, the number of the total lesions changed, based on which we evaluated the clinical effective rate. According to the changes of the total scores of TCM syndrome and skin condition, we also evaluated the effective rate of the TCM syndrome and clinical skin condition, respectively. Moreover, we evaluated the safety of the observationaccording to the changes ofsafety indexes. Results:In terms of total lesions, the total number of them in three groups significantly decreased after 4 weeks (P<0.05), and the change was greater in group A and group B. And after the treatment,80.00% patients in group A received effective results while 50.00% in group B and 20.69% in group C, which showing statistical difference (P<0.05).The syndrome of wind-heat invading the lung, including objective signs and subjective symptoms, all improved after the treatment in three groups. And at the same time, the total scores of TCM syndrome alldecreased significantly (P<0.05).Furthermore, the effective rates of the TCM syndrome in group A, group B andgroup Cwere 76.67%,70% and 17.24% respectively, and according to which, there was nostatistical difference between group A and groupB (P>0.05). And bothgroup A and group B performedsignificantly better than group C (P<0.05). Both group A and group C were treated withrehabilitation paste dressing. In terms of clinical skin condition, the total scores of them in group A and group C after 4 weeks decreased significantly (P<0.05).But in group B, the total scores before and after the treatment showed no significant difference(P>0.05). No serious adverse reactions were observed in three groups. After taking Chinese medicine, three cases ingroup A and two cases in group B had slight Stomach discomfort, andwhich disappeared after the adjustment of the time and the method of taking medicine. All the indexes were in the normal reference ranges before and after the treatment. Conclusion:The treatment of mild to moderateacne by using modified Pipa Qingfei decoction combined with rehabilitation paste dressing is safe and effective, thus worthy of a clinical choice for mild to moderate acne, and whichprovides a new idea for the treatment. Additionally, the combined treatment can not onlyimprove the skin condition and comfort degree of the patients, but also can improve the satisfactionand complianceof the patients.
