Acne vulgaris is a common and frequent disease to pubertal people. It is the chronic inflammation of folliculus sebaceous glands. Because it is often on the face, it makes many young people who love beauty feel painful. Retinoic acid and antibiotic medicine are the main modern medicine to treat acne, but the side effects are common and the recurrence rate is high. It is the trend of our research to find the traditional Chinese Medicine of which the use is simple and convenient, and the side effect is small. To attain the object, we chose Pipa Qingfei decoction to treat acne. We verified the curative effect of Pipa Qingfei decoction treating acne through clinical observation. From Aug. 2005 to Feb. 2006, 64 patients of acne were collected in Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Jiangsu Province. And they were divided into two groups in random. 44 patients belonged to the curative group, were treated by TCM, and 20 patients belonged to the control group, were treated by modern medicine. The clinical curative rate were observed. The results of observation proved that Pipa Qingfei decoction could relieve the clinical symptom obviously. The curative effect is superior to modern medicine, such as Roxithromycin capsule. And there were not any obvious side effects. It improves that Pipa Qingfei decoction is a safe and effective way to treat acne. It provided the basis of clinical treatment for acne vulgaris by TCM. Pipa Qingfei decoction deserves the further development and use.
