1,2-dichloroethane(DCE) is an organic solvent that can induce the toxic encephalopathy. The clinical symptom of the DCE induced toxic encephalopathy is headache, the cognitive impairment and the disturbance of consciousness. The progress of the disease is quick. The characteristic, of DCE induced toxic encephalopathy is symmetric white matter lesion in imaging, while the grey matter, such as the basal ganglia and dentate nucleus, are also involved in some cases. The mix of the cytotoxic and vasogenic edemas is thought to be the physiopathologic mechanism of the disease. There are no specific toxicidum for DCE induced toxic encephalopathy. The main treatment is reducing the intracranial pressure and the supportive method. The early diagnosis and treatment in time may decrease the morbidity and mortality rate. We report 3 cases of DCE induced encephalopathy:the clinical symptoms, progress of the disease and the fellow up. Then we analysis and discuss about the feature of these cases in clinical symptoms and on imaging, which may provide the value for the clinical practice.
