Theoretical Research About "Shiyao Lead To Dian,Fangcao Lead To Kuang" In Chinese Medicine

1 IntroductionSuwen points out that, the "Rezhong Xiaozhong patient" should be careful to take Shiyao and Fangcao, for the reason that "Shiyao may lead to Dian, and Fangcao may lead to Kuang".2 Background"Shiyao lead to Dian,Fangcao lead to Kuang", has its historical reasons, influenced by the social atmosphere of the time.Qin and Han dynasties in Chinese history is the period which immortal thoughts is very popular. Shiyao and Fangcao were treated as special drugs which can prolong one’s life. This thought impact not only ordinary people but also doctors.If doctors do not distinguish yin and yang of the patients,they may have diagnosising errors. When doctors treat the "Rezhong Xiaozhong patient" without Differential Treatment, and they use the Shiyao or Fangcao to treat the patients,they may make mistakes. The bad result is that the patients may be madness or crazy.3 ConceptMineral drugs is the original meaning of Shiyao. As the development of mentallurgy and alchemy,mental and Dan medicine are also belong to Shiyao.Fangcao is the herb which has frangrance or special smell. In literature,Fangcao is also used to describe a beautiful girl or somebody’s virtue. In traditional Chinese medicine,Fangcao’s meaning is similar to aromatic medicine. The plant which has special smell and therapeutical effect is belong to Fangcao.Dian has three implication in Suwen:epilepsy,crazy and abdominal distension.Kuang is a desease which like demented or mad. Dian and Kuang are belong to the Yang disease."Rezhong Xiaozhong" is caused by unhealthy diet,which is similar to diabetes mellitus. In traditional Chinese medicine, "Rezhong Xiaozhong" is identified as the disease which caused by pathogenic heat in Zang and Fu.4 PathogenesisWhy the "Rezhong Xiaozhong patient" become madness and crazy when they take mineral drugs and aromatic medicine? It has internal cause and external cause.The internal cause include the self-characteristics of the disease individual’s constitution and emotional factors. The external cause include social factors,drug properties and the level of the doctors."Shiyao lead to Dian,Fangcao lead to Kuang" has intimate connection with disease character and drug properties. Shiyao’s qi is heat,and Fangcao’s qi is heat,too. But when "Rezhong Xiaozhong patient" in the mixed excessiveness and deficiency stage,or in the stage of ying and yang deficiency,Shiyao and Fangcao are not prohibited.In traditional Chinese medicine clinic,there are some phenomenon that doctors don’t analyze the patient’s ying and yang. And some physician internists don’t distinguish the drug properties of Shiyao and Fangcao.If we use Shiyao and Fangcao to treat "Rezhong Xiaozhong patient" at the wrong stage,the patient may become madness and crazy. The state of mind of the patient is in the abdominal mode.The etiology and pathology of "Shiyao lead to Dian,Fangcao lead to Kuang" is that the patients’ying and yang,qi and blood are in a state of imbalance. Research meaningThrough this research,we can explore the ancient therapeutic method, the principle of application of Shiyao and Fangcao,and the new thought about some disease."Shiyao lead to Dian,Fangcao lead to Kuang" is like narcotic effect in some sense. So we can do a comparative study about them.6 EnlightenmentIn the clinic of traditional Chinese medicine,there are two bad tendentious we should alert. The first one is that when we use herbs to cure a disease,we are careless of the consequence the drugs may have. The second one is that we are unfaliliar with the drug properties of Shiyao and Fangcao.In Qin and Han dynasties, Shiyao and Fangcao were used as the special drugs to become an immortal. But the unreasonable using of Shiyao and Fangcao had bad effect on people’s health.In modern society,people pay more and more attention to their own health. They believe that eating some special food or drug may have benefit to their health. And they also think that some herbs may prolong one’s life. So they take some herbs without the theoretical direction of traditional Chinese medicine.Every herbs may have side effects,so when we use herbs to treasure life and benefit life,we should take traditional Chinese medicine theories as our guide.Shiyao and Fangcao have used for more then two thousand years traditional Chinese medicine accumulated valueable experiences and lessons in this progress. We should learn ancient doctors’experience,and to inherit their good tradition. On the other hand,the combination of modern technology is also important to improve the quality of our study.
