Experimental Study On The Effect Of QingFeiXieGan Decoction On Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Hyperlipidemia Of Tae-Eum Type In Sasang Constitutional Medicine

Objective:This paper is to study the effectiveness of Korean QingFeiXieGan Decoction by measuring total cholesterol, triglyceride, low density lipoprotein, high density lipoprotein cholesterol and fasting blood glucose. This study employed rats with type 2 diabetic mellitus which were introduced by using streptozotocin intraperitoneal injection and also using high fat and high sugar diet.Methods:60 male SD rats were randomly chosen:10 rats were set as a normal group and were fed with normal diet, and only with distilled water. The rest 50 rats were fed with high fat and high sugar diet for 1 week. Then type 2 diabetes mellitus were introduced by using streptozotocin intraperitoneal injection to use them as a model group.Out of the 50,10 were fed only with high fat and high sugar diet along with distilled water for 3 weeks. The next 10 rats were fed with atorvastatin intragastric gavage for three weeks as well as the high fat and high sugar diet. The rest 30 were randomly divided into three groups of 10, each being fed with high, medium and low dose of QingFeiXieGan Decoction in addition to the high fat and high sugar diet for three weeks.All those rats were killed and blood samples were taken, and the following levels were measured: fasting blood glucose, the content of total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein, high density lipoprotein and triglyceride of serum.Results were obtained using SPSS 16 software analysis and using single factor analysis of variance.Results:We have successfully established a rat model of type 2 diabetes mellitus. After 21 days of gavage treatment, those group treated with low, medium and high dose of QingFeiXieGan Decoction were lower in fasting blood glucose, low density lipoprotein cholesterol, total cholesterol and triglycerides compared with the model group with statistical significance, P< 0.05. And there was almost no difference from the group of atorvastatin cutting statins with P> 0.05.However, as far as the high density lipid protein cholesterol values are concerned, they were higher than the model group. There was no significant difference in the effectiveness between those treated with the atorvastatin and QingFeiXieGan decoction.Conclusion:Long term high fat diet caused obesity and lead to diabetes. QingFeiXieGan decoction can effectively reduce fasting blood glucose, triglyceride, total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol while increasing high density lipoprotein cholesterol to the rat model of type 2 diabetes mellitus which were fed with high-fat and high sugar diet.
