Hydrosalpinx has a detrimental effect on the outcomes of in vitro fertilization(IVF).It is necessary to pretreat the hydrosalpinx before IVF. Surgical interventions such as salpingectomy /salpingostomy or proximal tubal ligation before IVF can improve the outcomes of IVF. However, these procedures are often contraindicated in women with dense pelvic adhesions. Tubal resection or proximal ligation may have a certain impact on ovarian blood supply, the recurrence of hydrosalpinx may be possible after salpingostomy. Therefore, it is worthy to find out minimally invasive alternative therapies. The main objective of this review is to compare and assess the value of the therapeutic methods for hydrosalpinx before IVF. The results of the following procedures were compared: the laparoscopic surgical treatments(salpingectomy/salpingostomy/proximal tubal ligation),the hysteroscopic microinsertion of device achieving tubal occlusion, the ultrasound sclerosis and the aspiration of hydrosalpingeal fluid at the time of IVF procedure.Laparoscopic surgical treatment should be considered for all women with hydrosalpinx before IVF. Whenever laparoscopy is not recommended, hysteroscopic microinsertion of device seems to be the most effective option for the treatment of hydrosalpinx before IVF.
