Objectives:To investigate the preliminary effects with the technique of far cortical locking(FCL)in clinical application. Methods:A retrospective analysis was carried out in treatment of 7 patients with the application of far cortical locking plate fixation from May 2014 to December 2015.There were 3 males and 4 females, with a mean age of 55.6 years(range,21 to 70 years). There were 3 patients with distal femoral fractures, 2 with tibial fractures, and 2 with femoral fracture nonunion after operation.Results:7 patients were followed up for 4 to 16 months(average,13.1 months). All patients were within 3 months of full weight-bearing walking. 5 cases of fracture healed in a period of 3 to 5 months(average 4.0 months);2 cases of fracture nonunion healed in a period of 3to 10 months(average 6.5 months),and one patient had delayed union. The knee joint function was evaluated according to Merchan evaluation standard at the last follow-up,3patients were rated as excellent,3 good and 1 fair, with the excellent-good rate 85.7%.All 7patients were followed up without infection, fixation failure, implant breakage and other complications during the period. Conclusion:The preliminary clinical application with the technique of far cortical locking will achieve better fracture healing without fixation failure or implant breakage. The clinical effect is good and reliable, which will provide new choices and ideas for the treatment of nonunion.
