Short-term Effect Of Zheng Gu Pill On Midshaft Clavicular Fracture After Intramedullary Pinning

Objective:To evaluate the effects of Zheng Gu Pill on midshaft clavicular fracture after intramedullary pinning, and provide evidence for further clinical study and application.Methods:A total of 60 patients who underwent intramedullary pinning for midshaft clavicular fracture from October 2014 to May 2015 were randomly divided into two groups. All of them met our inclusion criteria. The experimental group (30 patients) took Zheng Gu Pill orally (6g po bid), from the first day-postoperatively. for six weeks. The control group (another 30 patients) were treated with Shangke Jiegu Tablet (4# po bid) for six weeks. The clinical data was collected. The comparison of VAS score and swelling status between two groups were carried out on 3 days,5 days.7 days after operation; the difference of bone healing time, Lane-Sandhu Score were tested at 2 weeks.4 weeks.6 weeks after pinning. Serum markers including serum osteocalcin. alkaline phosphatase. calcium concentration, inorganic phosphorus concentration were measured and analyzed. Constant score was determined at 12 weeks after operation.Results:Serum osteocalcin, alkaline phosphatase. calcium concentration, inorganic phosphorus concentration had no difference between two groups on the first day and two weeks after surgery (P>0.05). Six weeks after surgery, the serum parameters’ level had significantly increased in the experimental group (P<0.05).The experimental group had a significant more callus occurrence and shorter healing time than control group (P<0.05). There was no significance between two groups on VAS score and clinical swelling sign at 3rd. 5th,7th day after surgery. The experimental group had significantly higher Constant Shoulder Score than control group (P<0.05).Conclusion:Zheng Gu Pill can accelerate fracture healing, and enhance the rehabilitation, improve the quality of life of postoperative patients with fracture of clavicle. It can relieve pain effectively and enhance swelling to subside. Zheng Gu Pill can bring earlier return to mobility and function after midshaft clavicular fracture with intramedullary pinning.
