Objectives To investigate the association between physical group play and family function, close relationship (including peer, teacher-student relationship) among Chinese healthy adolescents, and to further explore adolescents’ motivation of taking part in physical group play, its factors and suggestions for improvement, as well as parents’and teachers’attitudes and its reasons, in order to get a comprehensive understanding of general status of adolescents participating, providing detailed reference for further improvement and promoting their healthy development.Methods Using convenience sampling method, from the end of September to mid of October, a town and county middle school were selected from a city of Shandong province respectively. Random sampling method was used to choose a third of classes from these four schools, including a total of 1059 students, conducting questionnaire survey. Then one to one interviews were conducted to participants based on gender ratio. Nvivol1.0 were used SPSS20.0 and analyze quantitative and qualitative data.Results1. Whether teenagers in the past two weeks participated in physical group play, was positively significantly correlated with parents’ education level, academic achievement adolescent KAB level and the positive close relationship of both teacher-student and same/opposite-sex friendship; whereas was negatively correlated with family functioning, positively correlated.2. According to qualitative analysis, there are two reasons of most teenagers participating in physical group play that physical fitness and fun, while there are also some adolescents for the promotion of relationships, the sense of honor and the improvement of sports skills; For adolescents dislike physical group play, mostly because dislike sports and no time to participate, and some teenagers are for no one organize or to play with, parents or grandparents not allow to participate, introverted as well as lack of activity skills. Teenagers’ recommendations for improving physical group play, are mainly related to no enough leisure time, poor activities’design, and sports places and facilities".3. The quality results of the parents’ perspectives show that, parents approving physical group play mainly because the benefits on the development of physical and psychological health; however, some parents are against for physical group play are mainly because of adverse effects on studying and unsafety issues. In addition, there are few parents not caring about adolescents’ physical group play.4. The quality results of the teachers’perspectives show that, the main reasons of most of teachers approve of physical group play, teenagers think are the promotion of the efficiency of studying, improving health, increasing the force of classes’unity as well; nonetheless, teachers against it are mainly because of wasting learning time.Conclusions1. The current level of youth participation in physical group play is less optimistic, so that there is the greatly need to solve this issue;2. The association between the level of youth participation in physical group play and family functioning needs further research, as the results implying the negative correlations is nearly opposite to the existing study that implying positive correlation;3. A high level of participating in physical group play may contribute to the development of puberty-KAB, as well as increases positive interaction with peers, Particular same-sex peers.4. Increasing adolescents’ self-motivation, parents’ and teachers’ attitude to youth participating in physical group play and enhancing the intensity of sports equipment should be done to healthy adolescent development.
