Research On The Communication Ability Of Nurses And Its Influence In A Treble-A Hospital

Objectives: To analyse and evaluate communication status and personality characteristics of nurses and its influence, gives the based theory and policy decision to improve the communication ability of nurses which also improves the quality of nursing for patient.Methods: It takes the 593 on-the-job nurses which having more than one year nursing experience as the respondents in a treble-A hospital in Hefei, And uses survey of communication ability of nurse and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire, through random sampling by general information questionnaire. All 484 surveys are given out and 474 of them are sent back while only 11 of them is invalid which means 97.7% of surveys is useful. It uses Epidata3.1 to create database and software of SPSS16.0 to do descriptive analysis, t test, non parameter test, Pearson correlation and multiple regression analysis and statistical analysis.Results: 1A nurse average score of communication skills was 148.3 + 11.3. For detail, information exchange and feedback(1 dimensions) gets score of 48.7±4.99, communication behavior(dimension 2) gets score of 65.5±5.51 and the communication of values(dimension 3) gets score of 34.2±3.07. 2The variance of score(P<0.05) for nurse communication skills has significant statistical meaning, which differ between different gender, age, work age and professional title. 3 Employment received communication training to patient gets higher score of communication values(dimensions 3) than the ones who are not got trained. Meanwhile, nurse patient communication training influents communication ability scores with patients and scores showed a positive correlation(P < 0.05). 4Compared to normal mode, nurse questionnaire e(extraversion) score lower(P = 0.044); neuroticism, psychoticism and lie personality scores are higher(P < 0.001). 5Nurse extraversion and hide personality scores and communication ability of nurses in the total score and three dimension scores are positively correlated(P < 0.05), and characteristics of neuroticism and psychoticism scores and communication ability of nurses in the total score and three dimension scores shows negative correlation(P < 0.05).Conclusion 1The nurses in that hospital show good communication ability with patient which are above average. However, the score of communication behaviour is high while the information exchange and feedback and communication values need to be further improved. 2The communication ability increases with age and work experience increases, and men have better communication skills than women. 3With the self evaluation going up, nurse communication ability and three dimension scores increase. 4The communication ability of a nurse is closely related to her personality. The extraversion and cover up of personality and communication ability of nurses in the total score and three dimension scores are positively correlated, while neuroticism and psychoticism personality and communication ability of nurses show negative correlation. 5Gender, sufficient communication training and the questionnaire of questionnaire e(extraversion) and n(neuroticism) and P questionnaire(psychoticism) is the influencing factors of nurses’ communication ability.
