Objective By Observing the clinical effect and safety on treatment of athlete’s chondromalacia patellae with the combination of kinesio taping and sodium hyaluronate, creat a effective and safety treatment to solve the problem of training time and treatment time of athletes with chondromalacia patellae. Methods A total of 75 patients who were in accordance with the inclusion criteria, were randomly divided into three groups:the observation group, the sodium hyaluronate (SH) control group and the kinesio tape (KT) control group,25cases in each group. The observation group were treated with kinesio taping combined with sodium hyaluronate, while the SH control group only with sodium hyaluronate and the KT control group also only with kinesio taping. For the injection of sodium hyaluronate therapy, ltime a week,5 weeks as one course, and for the kinesio taping therapy, 1time a day,6 days a week for 5 weeks. The assessments were performed at baseline, 1day after the treatment,7 days after the treatment, 14 days after the treatment and 5 weeks after the treatment. The pain during movement was evaluated with a Visual Analogue Scale(VAS). The keen function of the patients was evaluated by Lysholm score. The sports ability was carried out by Irrgang score. Lastly, all data were analysed by using the SPSS 18.0 software. Results ①There was no significant difference in the baseline score of VAS, Lysholm and Irrgang between three groups(P> 0.05). ②1 day after treatment, there was no significant difference of VAS, Lysholm and Irrgang score between observation group and KT control group(P> 0.05), but having significant difference compared with baseline score or SH control group(P<0.01), while there was no significant difference between SH control group compared with the baseline score(P> 0.05). ③7 days,14days and 5 weeks after treatment, three groups were significantly improved in VAS, Lysholm and Irrgang score, but the effect of observation group was superior to the SH control group and KT control group(P<0.01), while all scores had no significant difference of intra- KT control group comparison(P> 0.05). The effect of KT control group, in the improvement of VAS, Lysholm and Irrgang score, was superior to the SH control group at 7 days after treatment(P<0.05). But, in turn, SH control group was superior to the KT control group at 14days and 5 weeks after treatment(P<0.05).4.there was no serious adverse reaction in all patient among the treatment. Conclusion All the group’s treatment, for the athlete with chondromalacia patellae, had a good curative effect in the improvement of VAS, Lysholm and Irrgang score. But the combination of kinesio taping and sodium hyaluronate treatment had a better curative effect than only use a simple sodium hyaluronate or kinesio taping in treating of chondromalacia patellae. The immediate effect of kinesio taping on pain in the movement had been well identified, also it can be maintained from 7days after treatment to the exit. There had no advantage in recent curative effect with the treatment of sodium hyaluronate, but the curative effect can be continuously enhanced after 2 weeks. Kinesio taping combined with sodium hyaluronate treatment can safely solve the contradiction between training time and treatment time of athletes with chondromalacia patellae.
