Objective Observation of the clinical efficacy of the treatment of knee osteoarthritis with multiple needle deep needling knee points, and compared with the routine acupuncture treatment, the aim is to provide a new idea and method for clinical treatment of knee osteoarthritis. Methods All the 60 patients met the inclusion criteria of knee osteoarthritis were randomly divided into treatment group and control group, 30 patients in each group. The treatment group was treated with multiple needle deep needling therapy, and the control group was treated by routine acupuncture therapy. Both groups were treated once in each day and 5 times as a course of treatment, rest 2 days between each two of courses and 3 courses in total. After 3 courses, the integral of TCM symptoms, WOMAC Osteoarthritis Index score(including pain, stiffness, function and total score) were observed. The clinical curative effect was valued by the WOMAC osteoarthritis index total score. Then, the difference of clinical curative effect was compared between the two groups after statistical analysis.Results(1) Comparison of TCM symptom scores: before and after treatment, the difference within each group was very significant(P < 0.01). After treatment, the difference between the two groups was very significant(P < 0.01).(2) Comparison of WOMAC Osteoarthritis Index scores(1)Pain score: before and after treatment, the difference within each group was statistically significant(P < 0.01). Compared with the two groups after treatment, the difference was statistically significant(P < 0.01).(2)Stiffness score: there was significant difference within each group before andafter treatment(P < 0.01). After treatment, there was no significant difference between two groups(P﹥0.05).(3)Function score: compared with the two groups before and after treatment, the difference was statistically significant(P< 0.01). After treatment, there was significant difference between the two groups(P < 0.01).(4)Total score: two groups of patients before and after treatment, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.01). The difference of the two groups after treatment was statistically significant(P < 0.01).(3) Total efficacy comparison of the two groups after treatment: the total effective rate of treatment group was 90%, and the control group was 76.7%. The difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05).(4) There were no fainting, sticking, infection and other adverse conditions happened to any patient both of the two groups during the period of observation and treatment.Conclusions(1) Both two kinds of acupuncture therapies are effective in improving the clinical symptoms and the function of the knee joints of the patients with knee osteoarthritis. Comparison of two kinds of acupuncture methods, multi needle deep needling therapy is more effective than routine acupuncture therapy in releasing pain and improving knee-joints’ function of the patients. While the curative effect of two groups are equal to each other in improving the stiffness of the patients.(2) Comparison to routine acupuncture therapy, the total curative effect of multiple needle deep needling therapy is better. And the multiple needle deep needling therapy is worthy to clinical promotion and further study.
