Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of preoperative anxiety,depression and social support on quality of life among urinary system cancer patients,and was going to provide an important basis for improving the quality of life of patients.Methods Patients were admitted to Department of Urology,the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University and needed to undergoing surgery from October2014 to December 2015. They who were diagnosed urinary system cancer were included. They participated in this survey after obtaining informed consent by completing a detailed questionnaire regarding their demographic data, clinical characteristics, Hospital Anxiety and Depression questionnaire, and EORTC QLQ-C30 questionnaire. The data were analyzed using T test, analysis of variance, chi-square test,spearman correlation.Result This study collected 149 questionnaires, and the prevalence of prostate cancer,bladder cancer, and renal carcinoma was 34.2%, 31.5% and 34.2%, respectively.According to the hospital anxiety and depression scale, the prevalence of anxiety and depression was 28.9% and 18.1% for preoperative, respectively. Average scores of objective support between anxiety and without anxiety group were 8.7±2.7 and10.3±3.2(P<0.01). Average scores of the extent of using the available support between anxiety and without anxiety group were 6.9±2.4 and 8.0±2.3(P<0.01). Average scores of objective support between depression and without depression group were 8.4±2.7 and10.2±3.2(P<0.01). The scores of physical function, emotional function, cognitive function, social function and total health status in patients with anxiety were lower than those in patients without anxiety(P<0.05), while the scores of fatigue, pain, loss of appetite, shortness of breath, and financial difficulties were higher than those in patients without anxiety(P<0.05). The scores of physical function, emotional function, and total health status in patients with depression were lower than those in patients without depression, while the scores of fatigue, pain, and insomnia were higher than those in patients without depression. The social support scores of patients with above middle school those in patients with middle school or below middle school education level(P<0.01). Subjective support was positively correlated with physical function(P<0.01).Objective support was positively correlated with physical function, and total health status(P<0.05), and was negatively correlated with loss of appetite(P<0.05). The extent of using the available support was positively correlated with physical function(P<0.05), and was negatively correlated with loss of appetite, shortness of breath, nausea and vomit(P<0.05). The total of subjective support was positively correlated with physical function, and total health status(P<0.05), and was negatively correlated with loss of appetite(P<0.01).Conclusion Some patients with urinary system cancer was diagnosed with anxiety and depression. Preoperative anxiety and depression has negative effect on the quality of life of patients with urinary system cancer. It suggests that social support can not only reduce anxiety and depression, and can improve the quality of life of patients,Especially in physical function, total health status, loss of appetite, shortness of breath,and nausea and vomit.
