Scorzonera austriaca Willd., perennial herb of Compositae Subfam.Liguliflorae DC., is a traditional medicine herb of China. In many countries and regions,Scorzonera austriaca Willd. are also as vegetables, food, forage and so on. Scorzonera austriaca Willd. has good pharmacological activities, especially in the protection of liver function. It is very necessary to make a comprehensive and systematic study of of Scorzonera austriaca Willd..There are various ingredients in Scorzonera austriaca Willd., such as coumarins, flavonoids, terpenoids and so on. The study on caffeic acid and its derivatives of Scorzonera austriaca Willd. will be shown you in this paper. Each component has its own unique pharmacological activity. As is known to us all,the study of Chinese medicines’ effective components has very broad prospects for development. This will give a lot of benefits to our daily lives, like health and happiness.Scorzonera austriaca Willd. was extracted with ethanol, and then the solution should be collected,by the means of silica gel column, ODS column and some other methods. At the same time, high performance liquid chromatography and thin layer chromatography were uesd for detection. Finally six compounds were obtained. They are all belong to the caffeic acid and its derivatives. The literature suggests that caffeic acid and its derivatives have very good pharmacological activities. On the basis of antioxidant, they can protect the liver cells, enhance immunity, fight against the virus and other curative effect, especially on cardiovascular and cerebrovascular protection. There is a great deal of research value. With 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and some spectral analysis methods, the chemical properties of the compounds, and according to the relevant reports, the structures were identified:(I).luteolin8-C-(6"-O-trans-caffeoyl-β-D- glucopyranoside),(II). caffeic acid,(III). chlorogenic acid,(IV). 3,5-O-dicaffeoylquinic acid,(V). 3,4-O-dicaffeoylquinic acid,(VI). 3,5-O-dicaffeoylquinic acid methylester.According to previous reports, Caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, 3,5-Odicaffeoylquinic acid, 3,4-O-dicaffeoylquinic acid and 3,5-O-dicaffeoylquinic acid methylester were found in some other plants, but not in Scorzonera austriaca Willd.Luteolin8-C-(6"-O-trans-caffeoyl-β-D-glucopyranoside) was found in the natural would for the first time.In order to the make the systematic and comprehensive studise on the Scorzonera austriaca Willd, the separation of monomer compounds is very necessary. At the same time, we also hope to be able to find out the active chemical composition, which can provide the basis for searching for lead compounds. The study will lay a foundation for developing and making full use of this resources.
