Objective:To investigate the current situation and influencing factors of resilience of intensive care units nurses in Changchun, and describe the nursing work environment in ICU. Find the relationship between nurses’ resilience and work environment. The recommendations can provide theoretical basis for the intervention of mental toughness of ICU nurses and improve the work environment of ICU.Methods:Convenience sampling was used in this study. A total of 333 intensive care units nurses were surveyed in 2 hospitals. The Chinese version of CD-RISC and PES were used to evaluate the nurses’ resilience and work environment of ICU.Results:1. The average score of resilience of the investigated ICU nurses was(59.39±12.12).In the three dimensions, strength got the highest score(2.59±0.56); optimism got the lowest score(2.20±0.59).2. Different degree of ICU nurses has statistical significance in strength dimension, optimism dimension and the total score(P<0.05). Different monthly income, the level of ICU nurses have statistical significance in strength dimension, tenacity dimension and the total score(P<0.05). Different children situation, the ICU working years, title and the form of employment of ICU nurse have statistical significance in three dimensions and total score( P < 0.05). Through the multiple stepwise regression analysis, the ICU working years and the form of employment eventually enter the regression model.3. The average score of work environment of ICU was(77.68±9.90). In fivedimensions, high quality nursing service got the highest score(2.97±0.35) and participating in hospital affairs got the lowest score(2.58±0.46).4. Between the ICU nurses’ resilience and working environment there is a high correlation(P<0.001). The correlation coefficients among all dimensions and total scores of resilience and work environment were 0.218~0.564. The multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that the total score of work environment could explain about 34.2%variation of the ICU nurses’ resilience, and the high quality nursing service dimension score could explain about 2.7% variation.Conclusions:1. The resilience of the investigated ICU nurses were lower than the national norm, and also lower than the American ICU nurses’ resilience.,2. The ICU working years and the form of employment were the most important influencing factors of ICU nurses’ resilience. The longer nurses working in ICU, the higher level of resilience they will have. The nurses in personnel establishment form of employment show a higher resilience than the contracted nurses.3. The work environment of the investigated ICUs were lower than Changsha, Jinan area in China.4. The ICU nurses’ resilience showed a high correlation with the work environment. The work environment was positively correlated with resilience and the total score can positively predict the level of resilience of ICU nurse. The high quality nursing service was negatively correlated with resilience and the score can negatively predict the level of resilience of ICU nurses.
