ObjectiveTo analyze the status of social support, work environment and work values of nurses. To study the difference of the demographics factors in terms of social support, work environment and work values of nurses. To analyze work values of nurses under the effects of social support and work environment on.To provide scientific measures for improving social support, work environment and work values of nurses.MethodsData were collected by means of social support revalued scale, nursing practice environment scale and work value scale.A total of 2000 clinical nurses, from 7 tertiary hospitals in Tianjin, were investigated by means of stratified sampling, cluster sampling and random sampling. They came from internal medicines, surgeries, gynecology and obstetrics, pediatrics, emergencies, intensive care units and operations.SPSS 16.0 was used to log and analyze the data. The statistical methods included: descriptive,t test, variance analysis, correlation analysis and stepwise multiple regression analysis.Results1.The average score of social support was 37.82±7.38.There were16.66%,57.53%,25.81% nurses in the level of high, medium and low social support respectively. The average score of nursing work environment was 2.99±0.46.There were 25.93%,16.83%,57.24% nurses in the level of good, medium and bad work environment respectively. The average score of work value was 5.32±0.58,and cognitive work values got lowest score in nurses(5.16±0.67).2.The score of social support was different in the nature of position, marital status, education, employment form, age, number of night shifts and title(P<0.01).It showed that the nurses with higher position, married, higher educational background, formal employment, older, less number of night shifts and higher title had better social supports. The score of nursing work environment was different in the nature of gender, position, educational background and number of night shifts(P<0.01,P<0.05).It showed the nurses with female gender, higher position, lower educational background and less number of night shifts had better perception of work environment. The score of work values was different in the nature of gender and number of night shifts(P<0.05).It showed the nurses with less number of night shifts and female gender had better work values.3.There were significant difference in the work values of nurses on the different level of social support and work environment(F=7.601~21.119,F=34.537~122.893,P<0.01).The higher level of social support and work environment, the better work values of clinical nurses(P<0.01).There had a positive correlation between social support, work environment and work values(r=0.049~0.416,P<0.01,P<0.05).4.The dimension of high quality nursing service, the leadership of the head nurse, the subjective support and the use of social support entered into the regression equation, and the adjusted R2 was 0.168.It suggested that the work values could be predicted by the high quality nursing service, the leadership of the head nurse, the subjective support and the use of social support, and they could explained a total of 16.8% nurses’ work values.Conclusions1.The social support of nurses was in the middle level. The work environment was above average, and the largest number of nurses worked in the poor environment. The nurses had good work values, and the cognitive work values got the lowest score. It’s need to further improve social support, work environment and the cognitive work values of nurses.2.Hospital executives should improve the support for the nurses who were in lower educational background,in lower position, with frequent night shifts, unmarried, informal employment and younger, enhance the positive perception of work environment in male, frequent night shifts, with nurse practitioner title and higher educational background nurses, and improve work values of nurses who were in night shifts more frequently and male gender.3.The social support and work environment were positively correlated with work values of nurses.By improving work environment and social support could promote the work values of nurses in some degree.Particularly, improving the dimension of high quality nursing service, the leadership of the head nurse, the subjective support and the use of social support could better promote work values of nurses in some degree.
