Objectives: The purpose of this study were to understand the current status of the level of uncertainty in illness and the self-care agency of patients with cerebral ischemic stroke, to discuss of factors influences the uncertainty in illness and the self-care agency, and to analysis the correlation between uncertainty in illness and the self-care agency. Methods: We investigated patients with cerebral ischemic stroke who came from three general hospitals with three level of class A in Changchun by the method of convenience sampling. Patients with cerebral ischemic stroke were asked to fill in the questionnaire which include general demographic surveys scale, Uncertainty in Illness Scale for Adults and The Self-care Agency Questionnaire.Epi Data 3.0 software was used to manage the date into the computer, and SPSS20.0 was used to analyze date.Data analysis included descriptive statistics,t-text,one-factor analysis of variance, Pearson,s correlation analysis and multiple linear stepwise regression analysis. Results: 1. For patients with cerebral ischemic stroke, the uncertainty in illness score was 91.64±11.20, the proportion of the middle level of patients about 88.60%.The score of ambiguity uncertainty was 38.29 ± 5.76. The score of Lack of information uncertainty was 21.24±3.22.The score of complexity uncertainty was 19.26±3.05. The score of unpredictability uncertainty was 12.59±2.94. 2. The results of one-factor analysis of variance showed that the differences in uncertainty in illness of patients with cerebral ischemic stroke in age, education level, family monthly income, occupations, stroke frequency had statistical significance(P<0.05) 3. The lowest score about the self-care agency of patients with cerebral stroke was 16, the highest score was 66, the total average score about the self-care agencywas 45.12±9.05.General self-care needs was the highest scores 18.89±4.16, the development self-care needs was 14.37±3.72, the self-care needs when with illness was 11.85 ± 3.09. 4. There were significant negative correlations between the overall score of the self-care agency and the overall score of uncertainty in illness, ambiguity uncertainty, Lack of information uncertainty, complexity uncertainty, unpredictability uncertainty. 5. The results of one-factor analys is of variance showed that the differences in uncertainty in illness of patients with cerebral ischemic stroke in age, marital status education level, family monthly income, occupations had statistical significance(P<0.05)Conclusion: 1. All the patients with cerebral ischemic stroke experienced uncertainty in illness, and most patients with moderate uncertainty. 2. There was difference in patients with cerebral ischemic stroke in uncertainty in illness under different groups, such as age, education level, family monthly income, occupations, stroke frequency. 3. Most of the patients with cerebral ischemic stroke with moderate self-care agency. 4. The degree of uncertainty in illness of patients with cerebral ischemic stroke was closely related to the self-care agency. Negative correlation had be found between the uncertainty in illness and the self-care agency. 5. There was difference in patients with cerebral ischemic stroke in the self-care agency of patients under different groups, such as the uncertainty in illness, education level, occupations, age.
