Atrophic Glossitis refers to the lingual mucosa of atrophic changes caused by a variety of systemic diseases.Apart from the disappearing mucosal surface of the lingual papillae atrophy,a thin epithelial layer of the tongue as well as the tongue muscle atrophy shrink and become thin, and the tong becomes bright red and smooth as mirrors,or pale, which is also known as mirror smooth tongue[1].The study also found the per-centage of atrophic Glossitis morbidity in the elderly is from 1.3% to 9.0%[2].Its pathogenesis is complex and multifactorial, which result from three areas-the host, the oral environment and the microbial inter-action.The iron deficiency anemia atrophic Glossitis has been regarded as one of the main causes of the disease.Due to the decline in eating and chewing function of the elderly, the intake of iron has reduc-ed.Moreover,various systemic diseases such as peptic ulcers, lead to the excessive iron loss, resulting in the disorder of the metabolism and the update of inside cells in red blood cells. As early as in 1994,Sweeney MP[3]and so on’s experiments proved the serum iron concentration in patients with atrophic Glossitis were significantly lowered. Many experts further researched and updated it.In recent years, with the abuse of sub-stances such as antibiotics, immunosuppressive agents, the candida infec- tion rates and types are constantly changing which draw more attention to the study of the link between Candida infection and atrophic Glossi-tis.Terai and so on[4] found that 29 out of 40 cases of atrophic Glossitis recorded were of fungal infections and all were Candida albicanue;Zong Xiaoming and so on[5]analyzed 139 cases of atrophic Glossitis of which 50 cases were caused by Candida with strains of differ-ent types.lt is visible that Candida infection is closely linked to the onset of atrophic Glossitis. In terms of the relevance of atrophic Glossitis with iron deficiency anemia and candida infection this experiment was carried out to improve the diagnosis and treatment of these two aspects of atro-phic glossitis. Objective:Through the research of the systemic disease species, regular blood examination, serum iron, patients oral health index, the rate of wearing removable denture, back tongue Candida bacteria strai-ns types and colony numbers of the patients with atrophy tongue infla-mmatory and normal oral mucosa, we would like to discuss the link betw-een the deficiency of iron anemia together with the Candida bacteria in-fection and the atrophy tongue inflammatory, aiming to offer some gui-dance for the clinical prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.Methods:1.The experimental group:21 cases of senile patients with atrophic Glossitis (52-84 years old). The comparative group:21cases of oral mucous mem-brane of normal aging (56-78 years old).the same doctor recorded syste-mic diseases for the experimental and comparative groups.(The records or medical report form shall be the criteria.Anyone who is unsure should go to the relevant departments) 2.2 ml elbow venous blood was drawn by the means of vacuum blood extraction and well-distributed mixed in bl-ood dedicated pipe for routine blood testing by SYSmex XT-1800i auto-matic blood cell Analyzer;Put 1 ml elbow venous blood in a biochemical test pipe, and use the BECKMAN COULTER Au5800 automatic bioche-mical Analyzer for determination of iron in serum.3.The same doctor re-corded whether the removable partial dentures were worn in the two groups,ta-king TDI for the record standards and recorded the scores of dental caries,Periapical periodontitis and periodontitis points, and then calculated the TDI of the patients (that is, TDI= the score of dental caries +the score of periodontitis Periapical+the score of periodonti-tis).4.smear the two groups of patients’mouths with sterile cotton swabs for microscopy of fungi, and the positive patients should gargle with 1*PBS gargle for chromogenic examination in chromagar for 48 hour-s,recording the num-bers and types of bacteria 5.all the data should be analyzed by SPSS 11.0 software. Also, the interval means were supposed to be estimated. The TDI of the two groups were tested by t, and the remain-ing group by z test.P was less than 0.05,which was statistically signifi-cant.Results:1.In terms of systemic diseases, the percentage of the preva-lence of gastritis in the experimental group was 61.9%,anaemia preva-lence was 33.33% while in the comparative group, the corresponding percentages were 14.29% and 4.76%.The former was obviously higher than the latter, whose difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).Am-ong the two groups the percentage of coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, bronchitis, diabetes, other diseases was respectively 19.05 %,38.10%,14.29%,14.29%,9.52%,andl4.29%,28.57%,9.52%,4.76%,4.76 %,and the differences were not obvious and of no statistical significance (P>0.05).2.As for the routine blood test, experimental group,7 patients’ MCV was not more than or equal to 79fl and 6 patient’s MCHC was not more than or equal to 300g/l and 7 patients’MCH was not less than or equal to 28pq/1.10 patients’ RDW was more than14.5% and according to routine blood screening index initial determinations of iron deficiency,6 people suffered anemia iron deficiency while in the comparative group,1 patient’s MCV was not more than or equal to 79fl and one patient’s MCHC was not more than or equal to 300g/1 and 1 patient’s MCH was not less than or equal to 28pq/1.5 patients’ RDW was more than 14.5% and 1 person suffered anemia iron deficiency Comparing.Iron deficiency anemia in two groups,we found the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).3. As for the detection of serum iron,in the experimental group 7 persons’serum iron was less than 8.95umol/l but one person in the other one and the difference was statistically significant.4 In terms of the oral health,of the caries scores for the experimental group was 2.05±0.34, the score of periapical periodontitis and periodontitis was respectively0.38± 0.21 and 0.57±0.26, calculation came TDI value (TDI value= caries scores+root tip week inflammatory scores+teeth week inflammatory scores) for 2.86±0.28, controlled group of caries scores for 1.57±0.29, root tip week inflammatory scores for 0.67±0.21, teeth week inflamma-tory scores for 0.48±0.22, the calculated TDI was 2.71±0.36, TDI was tested by t P=0.48,resulting in no statistical significance (p> 0.05).5.As with wearing the removable partial dentures,in the experimental group,10 out of 21 wore the removable partial dentures, that is,47.62%,but in the comparative group,6 out of 21 did,28.57%.,tested by Z,p=0.10, resulting in no statistical significance (P>0.05) 6.1n the experimental group,9 out of the 21 patients (42.86%) were infected by candidiasis, candida albicans (100%),and the numbers of colonies were more than 300CFU/ ml.However,3 in the 21 patients in the the comparative group (14.29%) were infected by candidiasis, candida albicans (100%),and the numbers of colonies were less than 300CFU/ml which was normal. In the aspects of Candida infection rate and the number of colonies:>300CFU/ml,the experimental group was higher than in the comparative group, which led to statistical significance.Apart from candida albicans, nothing else was found.Conclusions:1.Iron-deficiency anemia was related to the incidence of atrophic glossitis.2 Candida albicans infection as well as the bacteria numbers which were more than 300CFU/ml was related to the onset of atrophic Glossitis.
