The academic experience of Chinese medicine experts is great wealth of the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). There is no lack of summary of famous experience experts, while most of which were arranged by the younger generation, and still have quite a number of omissions. Therefore, we want to collate Yang Shaoshan’s unique academic thoughts and the clinical experience, summarize the medication rule and characteristics in treating functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs).Yang Shaoshan, national famous Chinese medicine experts, is born from the medical family and has practiced medicine in Hangzhou since very young. Yang is erudite and informed with great accomplishments. He has rich experience in treating pulmonary diseases, spleen-stomach diseases and difficult and complicated cases. In particular, he has his unique insights in FGIDs and lung tumors, with accurate syndrome differentiation and drug using, he cured intractable diseases many a time.FGIDs are common diseases of digestive system, caused by a group of interactive factors such as physiology, psychology, society, with symptoms like belching, sour regurgitation, abdominal distension, bellyache, diarrhea, constipation and so on, except organic diseases and medical unexplained symptoms by organic diseases. In the contemporary era, with the accelerated pace of live and increasing changes of environment, the occurrence rate and recurrence rate of FGIDs are increasing year on year, which severely affect patients’ working, studying, and quality of life.In reviews a wealth of ancient literature related to FGIDs, the author intents to analyze ancient prescriptions, probe into the rule of treatment based on an overall analysis of the illness and patients’ condition targeting to FGIDs. It’s possible to reason out medical sciences regarded spleen-stomach weakness internal impainment due to. And the doctors always treated by invigoration, regulating the circulation of qi and warming middle energizer. It’s reasonable to infer that ancient medical experts regarded spleen-stomach weakness, seven emotions, pathogenic cold attacking the stomach as main etiology and pathogenesis. The doctors usually treated by three methods, namely, invigoration, regulating the circulation of qi and warming middle energizer. The author has been studied with Doctor Yang for years, thus could be able to discuss the clinical experience, rule and characteristics of prescription and medication in treating FGIDs on the collected cases.Doctor Yang considers that the development of FGIDs always results from misadjustment of qi and blood, imbalance of yin and yang, functional disturbances of viscera and so on, particularly due to ascending, descending, exiting and entering of qi movement. Qi disorder influence normal qi ascending and descending, leading to sending down the clear and sending up the turbid, unable to distinguish between them. Doctor Yang believes that when treats FGIDs, although treatment should be based on syndrome differentiation, meanwhile, it also ought to stick to the harmony of qi ascending and descending, always combines regulating qi with eliminating phlegm, clear heat, resolving dampness, improving digesting, eliminating stagnation and so on. Doctor Yang is skilled in applying classical prescriptions using drugs in pertinence. He prescribes whit consideration and attention of drug properties, flavors as well as compatibility follows with modern pharmacological research results, which results in significant clinical efficacy. The rigorous and flexible treatment method enriches the thoughts and methods for curing FGIDs, and lays the foundation for the academic experience inheritance of TCM experts.
