A Meta-analysis Of Therapeutic Effect Of TCM In Treating Radiation Enteritis

Objective:Strict screening the literature of traditional Chinese medicine methods in treatment of radiation enteritis, for data extraction and meta analysis. To evaluate the efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine methods on radiation enteritis.Methods:According to the systematic review method,We searched the literature from Chinese Science and Technology Academic Journal(VIP), the China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),Wan fang database, PUBMED and retrieve part of Chinese core journals by hand and searched literature cite. We filtered literature based on the included and excluded standard, evaluated quality of the literature according to evaluation standard of quality and then analyzed the data by RevMan 5.3 software.Results:We brought into twenty three research Which included a total of 1736 cases With ulcerative colitis. The quality of these research assessed by Jadad score Was low.The meta-analysis results show:the treatment group had a better clinical effect than the Western medicine group [RR=1.34,95%CI[1.27 to 1.40], Z=11.55, P< 0.00001].Meanwhile the treatment group could improve the effect of enteroscopy [RR=1.48,95%CI[1.04 to 2.11], P=0.03],the quality of life (KPS scores) [WMD=9.06,95%CI=[7.39 to 10.72], P<0.00001],TCM symptoms scores [WMD=1.71,95%CI=[1.39 to 2.02], P<0.00001], and also could relieve abdominal pain [WMD=0.54,95%CI[0.40 to 0.69], P< 0.00001], diarrhea[WMD=0.43, 95% CI[0.29 to 0.58], P<0.00001],the bloody mucopurulent stool[WMD=0.51,95%CI=[0.39 to 0.64], P<0.00001], tenesmus[WMD=0.50 95%CI[0.36 to 0.63], P<.00001],hypodynamia WMD=0.96,95%CI[0.73 to 1.19], Z=8.19, P<0.00001].The sensitivity analysis also shows the stability of general effect, the quality of life and TCM symptoms scores, the enteroscopy effect shows the poor stability.Conclusion:This study suggests that Chinese medicine on radiation enteritis can improve the clinical effect better than the control group. However the existing evidence can not fully prove the efficacy and safety of clearing away intestinal dampness and heat methods, for the researches have a low methodological quality and exist many inadequacies and publication bias. Therefore high quality of large sample,multicenter,randomized,controlled trials are needed to further confirme the conclusion.
