Objective To investigate the level and influencing factors of posttraumatic growth in peritoneal dialysis patients, and explore the effect of group Rational Emotive Therapy on posttraumatic growth, and hope to provide evidence for clinical nurses to carry out psychological intervention in these patients. Methods This research included two parts, the first part was a cross-sectional research, a convenient sample of 135 peritoneal dialysis patients were enrolled in one of the hospitals in Shanghai. The questionnaires included general situation questionnaire, perceived social support scale (PSSS), Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire (MCMQ) and Posttraumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI). Single factor analysis, pearson correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were used to explore the important influencing factors of posttraumatic growth in peritoneal dialysis patients. The second part was an intervention research. Totally 40 patients were randomly divided into an experimental group and a control group. There was no significant difference between two groups at baseline level. The patients in the control group received routine treatment and nursing care, Based on that, the experimental group was additionally provided with group Rational Emotive Therapy. The intervention was carried out once a month, and four times in total. Both groups were measured before and after the intervention, and the intervention effects were analyzed.Results①The score of PTGI in peritoneal dialysis patients was 61.12±12.21. The score of personal strength dimension was the highest, whereas the score of new possibilities dimension was the lowest.②The single factor analysis showed that educational level and family income were the influencing factors of PTGI score in peritoneal dialysis patients; Pearson correlation analysis showed that social support and coping mode had close relation with PTG level; multiple regression analysis showed that the most important influencing factors were avoiding, facing surrender and social support.③The difference before and after the intervention in each group was compared, the result showed that there were significant differences in the scores of PSSS, surrender dimension, PTGI and the each dimension of WHO Quality of Life-BREF(WHOQOL-BREF) in experimental group (P<0.05). Whereas those were no significant differences in control group (P>0.05). The difference before and after the intervention between two groups was compared, the result showed that the scores of PSSS, surrender dimension, PTGI, Psychological Domain and Social Domain in the experimental group were significant higher than those in the control group (P<0.05), but the differences of the scores of facing, avoiding, and Physical Domain and Environment Domain were not significant (P>0.05)Conclusion ①The level of the peritoneal dialysis patients’PTG was medium, and it could be improved.②Educational level, family income, perceived social support and coping mode were the influencing factors of PTGI score in peritoneal dialysis patients, among those, perceived social support and coping mode were the most important influencing factors.③Group Rational Emotive Therapy can improve posttraumatic growth level and quality of life in peritoneal dialysis patients.
