Objectives:1.To study and analyze mortality rate, the major causes of death and characteristics of their distribution as well as the variation trend of the inhabitants through the collection of relevant information about the deaths in Gu Su District in 2013.2. To establish scientific basis for the researches such as integrated control of chronic disease, effect evaluation, control measures and strategies of chronic disease.Methods: To make a descriptive statistical analysis of the surveillance data concerning death causes in Gu Su District in 2013 by making use of the general death rate and proportions of death causes in chronic diseases.1. Population data: The statistics data of the population in Gu Su District in 2013 was from Residence Registry Department in the police office, adopting the an average population between the end and the beginning of the year 2013.2. Materials concerned about death causes: The materials mainly came from the reported medical certificates of an inhabitant’s death, direct data form death causes registering and reporting system. In addition, the materials as well combined with the transcription of cremation list in mortuary house, the cancellation of household registration list in the police office, infant mortality list in maternal and child care service center and so on, to check with the mortality database. With multiple sections and approaches, the repetition could be deleted while the omission could be added to the database. All the death causes materials were transferred to Death Reg Database 2005,adopting ICD-10, the international classification of disease, to classify and code the disease.3.Data Processing: The health care professionals were in charge of the statistical analysis of all the death report cards.4. Statistical approaches: The EXCEL2007 、 SPSS20.0 software was used toanalyze and process the data, and the enumeration data was presented as the proportion of the summation of the rates, the comparison of the enumeration data chooses2? inspection way, the inspection level α=0.05.Results:The number of permanent resident population in Gu Su District of Jiang Su Province in 2013 was 746648, of which 368307 males, taking up 49.33 per cent, and378341 females, covering 50.67 per cent. The elderly population(more than 60 years old)was 191857,taking up 25.70 per cent.In 2013, there were 5450 mortality cases, while 2990 cases were men and 2460 were women. The overall mortality rate was 729.93 to 100 thousand, however, male death rate was 811.82 to 100 thousand, while female death rate was 650,21 to one hundred thousand. The difference of death rate between males and females was of statistical significance, the male mortality rate, however, far higher than the female(P<0.001).Among three death causes that have been analyzed, death rate in the chronic non-infectious disease, 639.12 to one hundred thousand, was of the highest, which took up 87.56 per cent of the whole death causes.The top five death causes in Gu Su District were malignant tumor, respiratory disease, heart disease, injury respectively. There were 4616 cases died of the diseases mentioned above, taking up 84.70 per cent of the general death toll.The top three death causes for males in Gu Su Districe were in sequence the malignant tumor, disease concerning respiratory, cerebrovascular disease, while for females, they were malignant tumor, cerebrovascular disease and heart disease respectively.40 children who were under 14 years old died in 2013, with the mortality rate of the 57.20 to 100 thousand, and the major and foremost cause for their death was congenital malformation. 47 death cases among the youth, with a mortality rate of 51.71 to one hundred thousand, and the first cause for their death was malignant tumor.There were 599 of middle-aged death cases, accounting for 10.99 per cent of the general number. Its death rate was 201.20 to one hundred thousand. However,malignant tumor was the first major cause.The total number of the elderly deaths is 4764, occupying 87.41 per cent of the general number. Its mortality rate was 2483.10 to 100 thousand. The first top three causes that were responsible for the elderly mortality were malignant tumor,cerebrovascular disease, disease concerning respiratory respectively, of which the death cause of malignant tumor ranked the first. 1432 aged people died of malignant tumor,taking up 30.06 per cent of the general death cases, and its mortality rate was 746.39 to one hundred thousand.Malignant tumor is the primary death cause for the inhabitants in Gu Su District.There were 1759 cases that died of malignant tumor, occupying 32.28 per cent of the total mortality, and its death rate was 235.59 to 100 thousand. However, 1084 cases were males, with a mortality rate of 294.32 to 100 thousand. 675 cases were females,whose mortality rate was 178.41 to 100 thousand. The study on the difference between males and females when it referred to death causes in malignant tumor was of statistical significance, males death rate under this cause was far higher than the females(P<0.001).Cerebrovascular disease, the second death cause in the whole city. 896 cases died of this disease, taking up 16.44 per cent, its mortality rate was 120.00 to 100 thousand.Among the cases, 472 males, whose mortality rate was 128.15 to 100 thousand, while424 females, with a mortality rate of 112.07 to 100 thousand. The different proportions existing in this cause between males and females were of statistical significance, death rate in males was a little higher than females(P=0.045).Respiratory disease was the third death cause for Gu Su District inhabitants. 858 cases died of this cause, accounting for 15.74 per cent of general mortality, and its mortality rate was 114.91 to 100 thousand. 489 cases were men, with a mortality rate of132.77 to 100 thousand, while women took up 369 cases, with a mortality rate of 97.53 to 100 thousand. The difference of mortality rate in respiratory disease between males and females was of statistical significance, death rate among males was far higher than the females(P<0.001).Heart disease, the fourth death cause for Gu Su District inhabitants. With a total number of 826 death cases, it took up 15.16 per cent of the general death toll. Itsmortality rate was 110.63 to 100 thousand. 414 men died of heart disease, with a mortality rate of 112.41 to 100 thousand, while 412 women died of this case, with a mortality rate of 108.90 to 100 thousand. The difference of mortality rate in heart disease between males and females was of no statistical significance(P =0.648).Conclusion:1.The aging population, at the age of 60 and over, took up 25.70 per cent of the general population of Gu Su District in 2013, which showed that Gu Su District has entered into an aging society.2.The mortality rate in males was higher than females, showing an increasingly concern in men’s health problems.3.Malignant tumor was the first and foremost death cause for Gu Su District inhabitants. 1759 inhabitants died of this disease, occupying 32.28 per cent of total death toll. The mortality rate was 235.59 to 100 thousand.4.Death rate concerning chronic non-infectious disease was 639.12 to 100 thousand, which was the highest, taking up 87.56 per cent of total death causes.Therefore, the importance of the health care prevention from chronic disease is highlighted.
