ObjectiveWe conduct a survey to find out the status of patient safety culture by hospital staffs and to provide the basis for patient safety improvement. The objective is to identify the advantageous area and the room for improvement, the influential factors of the results.Method1. Document IndexingInquire the foreign and domestic periodicals in the database of CNKI,VIP, wanfang, Medline、Elsevier、Pubmed and so on to acquaint the foreign and domestic status of patient safety culture.2. Questionnaire MethodWe assessed the staffs perception of patient safety in a tertiary hospital by Chinese Version of Hospital Survey of Patient Safety Culture (HSOPSC), which is developed by the Agency HealthCare Research and Quality (AHRQ).The questionnaire contains 12 dimensions,42 items,2 separate variable and an open question which is to collect opinions or suggestions about patient safety, errors or adverse events reporting in the hospital.3. Statistical AnalysisData was obtained and analyzed by the SPSS 17.0 software.Result1. There were 400 questionnaires distributed and 367 questionnaires were returned validly.The valid return rate was 91.8%.2. The average overall score was 3.45±0.37 and overall positive respond rate was 56.01%.The mean scores of the 12 dimensions raged from 2.85 to 4.00.The mean scores of the 42 items raged from 2.45 to 4.12.58.8% of the investigator considered the patient safety level of their work units was "excellent" or "very good".2.7% of them chosed "poor" for their work units.50.7% investigator did not reported any event in the past year and 31.6% investigator reported 1~2 evens.3.The positive response rate of 2 dimensions were above 75%,including "teamwork within units" and "organizational learning-continuous improvement".They were the strength areas for the hospital. The positive responsive rate of 6 areas were less than 50%,which were the areas for improvement.There were 9 items which positive response rates was higher than 75%. The positive response rate of 15 items were below 50%.The influence factors of staffs’recognition and attitude toward patient safety culture include professional title, education background, work unit.Conclusions:The hospital has a positive safety culture. There were two strength field including "teamwork within units" and "organizational learning-continuous improvement".There were three main areas need to be improved, which includes communication, events reporting and staffing.The influence factors of staffs’ recognition and attitude toward patient safety culture include professional title, education background, work unit.
