Objective:To compare the efficacy and safety of the posterior and anterior-posterior surgery in the treatment of spinal tuberculosis. To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of posterior surgery and to provide the evidence for posterior surgery in treatment of spinal tuberculosis. Methods:165 cases with 73 males, 92 females were collected from the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University from January 2003 to June 2013. There are 37 males and 39 females in posterior surgery group and 36 males and 53 females in anterior-posterior surgery group. The two groups were compared for the VAS score(preoperative, postoperative and the last follow-up), hospital stay after surgery, operation time, intraoperative blood loss, kyphosis deformity correction, bone graft fusion time, hospitalization costs and JOA score. Results:The posterior surgery was significantly superior to anterior-posterior surgery in the hospital stay, operation time, intraoperative blood loss, kyphosis deformity correction and hospitalization costs,. However, there were no significantly differences between two groups in JOA score, VAS score(preoperative, postoperative, the last follow-up), bone graft fusion time and the number of cases of postoperative complications Conclusion:The posterior surgery is efficacy, safety, and it’s a reasonable choice for the treatment of spinal tuberculosis.
