Background In recent years, there is increasing evidence that Obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS)is a potential risk factor for glaucoma. There have been some clinical researches about the relationship between OSAHS and glaucoma. Most of the results show that the glaucoma have obvious relationship with OSAHS, and correlated with the severity of OSAHS.However, there are some studies did not find the correlation between OSAHS and glaucoma, and OSAHS in onset mechanism of glaucoma is not yet clear, so far, at home and abroad for the issue remains controversial. Objectives We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate that Whether OSAHS is a risk factor of glaucoma,to explore the correlation between OSAHS and glaucoma, and to provide a scientific basic of the prevention of glaucoma and health decisions.Materials and methods1. Materials Source:Using subject headings“sleeping apnea”and“glaucoma”to search main professional journals and related references of electronic database Pub Med,Time limit on January 1, 1982 to January 30, 2015. limit languages: English.2. Methods:NOS(Newcastle-Ottawa Scale) is used to evaluate quality of literature,Application Review Manager5.2 software into literature data for statistical analysis.According to each group heterogeneity of card square test, when the I2 ≥ 50%, each test exists heterogeneity,by using fixed effect model the contrary, when the I2 < 50%, by using the fixed effects model. Using odd ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interal(confidence internals, CI) to analysis.By the method of eliminating some of the included in the study of the sensitivity of analysis. "Funnel" is used to analysis the research potential publication bias.Screening and quality evaluation of literature needs two researchers involved, when have differentsuggestion, can be used to discuss or negotiate by seeking help to professional experts in this field.Results1. The basic situation in literature:23 preliminary articles were screened out, collectting the full texts, 16 articles were included by according to inclusion and exclusion criteria, those articles are case-control studies, none of them is prospective cohort study, ruled out the four of cross-sectional studies. NOS was used to assess quality of literature, The results showed that the quality of those articles are acceptable.2.Meta analysis results:The results showed that those articles exist Heterogeneity, the random effects model analysis is adopted, the prevalence of glaucoma OSAHS vs non-OSAHS OR = 1.87, 95% CI(1.21, 2.90); According to the severity OSAHS were analyzed, and the midd, moderate and severe OSAHS vs non-OSAHS OR95 % CI were 3.61(0.56, 23.43), 4.17(0.47, 36.91) and 0.47(1.14, 42.26). Sensitivity analysis: the OR value fluctuations in 1.74 ~ 2.16, close to 1.87, so the stability of the Meta analysis results is well. "Funnel" graphic is asymmetry, suggests a possible publication bias.Conclusions1.Meta analysis results suggest that OSAHS is a risk factor for glaucoma;2.The prevalence of glaucoma is associated with the severity of OSAHS. That is,The heavier OSAHS condition the higher prevalence of glaucoma.
