This thesis includes four chapters. In the first chapter, the phytochemical compositions of Whitfordiodendron filipes from Jinghong of Yunnan were studied. In the second chapter, A simple method for the oxidation of natural products to α,β-unsaturated ketone using o-iodoxybenzoic acid(IBX) has been studied. In the third chapter, the hydrolyzate of the n-butanol fraction of Boschniakia himalaica were studied. Finally, chemical compositions and pharmacological studies of Boschniakia were reviewed.By solvent extraction, silica gel column chromatography, MCI column chromatography, Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography, high performance liquid chromatography and other methods, 7 compounds were isolated from the methanol extract of the Whitfordiodendron filipes and their structures were elucidated by various spectrum(1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, HSQC, HMBC, and 1H-1H COSY), including neoechinulin A(1), formononetin(2), liquiritigenin(3), daidzein(4), 7,4’-dihydroxyflavone(5), geraldone(6), and isoliquiritigenin(7). Compound 1 is alkaloids, which demonstrated cytotoxic, antioxidant, and free radical scavenging activity activities. Compound 2-7 are flavonoids. All of the above conpounds were isolated from Whitfordiodendron for the first time.o-Iodoxybenzoic acid has been synthesized. Five pure compounds and the hydrolyzate of Panax pseudoginseng Saponins investigated were converted by IBX into the corresponding α,β-unsaturated ketone. Only three oxidization products of β-sitosterol, 20(R)-panaxotriol and taraxerol were isolated effectively, their structures were elucidated by various spectrum, including stigmasta-1,5-dien-3-one(1’), 1(2)-en-panaxatrione(2’), taraxera-1,14-dien-3-one(3’). Compound 2’ is a new one. Other substrates after oxidation, the oxidization products too complex to isolate effectively.In the third chapter, the n-butanol fraction of Boschniakia himalaica was hydrolyzed and five compounds were isolated from the hydrolyzate. Their structures were elucidated as methyl caffeate(1 "), 3β-acetoxy ursolic acid(2"), ursonic acid(3 "), hedyotol A(4") and negundins B(5 ") by various spectrum. Compounds 3", 4 " and 5" have never been isolated from Boschniakia neither nor have their saponins.At last, the name of the phytochemical compositions of Boschniakia, structure, source, classification and pharmacological activity are summarized. Phytochemical investigation on the genus led to the isolation of phenylpropanoid glycosides, lignans, triterpenoids, steroids, and monoterpenes, and some of the compounds demonstrated antitumor, antioxidation, liver, and enhance immunity activities.
