Objective: The purpose of the subject is to observe and analyze the clinical efficacy of treating cervicogenic headache(CEH) by releasing acupoints around neck with acupotomy, and to explore more effective and safer program applied in treatment of cervicogenic headache and its accompanying symptoms. Methods: We used the study methods of random, control and single-blind,chosing the QianFoshan hospital of Shandong province,Workers’ hospital of Shouguang as research centers.72 cases of patients which were up to the included standard of CEH were randomly divided into two groups:experimental group and control group. The experimental group with 36 cases was treated by releasing acupoints around neck with acupotomy. The control group with 36 cases was treated by releasing impaired cervical segments with acupotomy. Both of the two groups were treated one time every seven days, two times as a course of treatment. We evaluated the efficiency according to the date of the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS),range of the motion in the neck(ROM) and total scores of accompanying symptoms between two groups before treatment, after one course and following-up 3 months. Results: According to the statistics analysis, after treatment both of the two groups had significant difference(P < 0.05)in all aspects of effective evaluation, which proved that both of the two programs was effective on the treatment of CEH.VAS scores of both groups after treatment showed no significant statistical difference, but at the time when follow-up was taken the scores showed significant difference. As to the results of ROM,two groups had obvious curative effects in improving the activity of cervical spine, and had no statistical significance(P > 0.05).According to the results of total scores of accompanying symptoms, though two groups had obvious curative effects, the effect of experimental group was superior to that of control group both at the time when the teatment was finished and follow-up was taken.Conclusion:①Both of the two grograms could effectively relieve CEH,consequently improving life quality.Though the short-term effects showed no significant diffrence, the long-term effects of the experimental group were superior to that of control group.②Both of the two groups had obvious curative effects in improving range of the motion in neck.③Both of the two groups can be effective in the treatment of symptoms with cervical headache. And the experimental group is more effective than the control group.
