Objective: To analyze the mortality trends of malignant tumors in a district of Dalian from 2004 to 2013, and to provide basic information for the prevention and treatment of malignant tumors. Methods: The monitoring data of tumor in a district of Dalian from 2004 to 2013 were organized and analyzed. The crude mortality rate and standardized mortality rate, sex-specific mortality rate and standardized mortality rate, age-specific mortality rate, the top ten mortality rate of malignant tumors and the top ten mortality rate of malignant tumors according to the sex, ratio, the annual percent change(APC) were calculated to analyze the mortality trends of malignant tumors in the district.Results:1. Totally 8303(male 5062, female 3241) death cases were reported in the district of Dalian from 2004 to 2013.Totally, the crude mortality rate of malignant tumors was 233.28 per 100,000, the standardized mortality rate of malignant tumors was 119.93 per 100,000. In males, the crude mortality rate of malignant tumors was 289.08 per 100,000, the standardized mortality rate of malignant tumors was 146.15 per 100,000. In females, the crude mortality rate of malignant tumors was 179.23 per 100,000, the standardized mortality rate of malignant tumors was 93.90 per 100,000. The mortality rates of malignant tumors in males were higher than in females and the sex ratio was 1.56:1. Age distribution showed that the mortality rate of malignant tumors was low before the age of 45 and age-specific mortality rate of malignant tumors showed a rising trend along with the age after the age of 45. Age-specific mortality rate of malignant tumors was higher in males than in females after the age of 40.2. The top ten mortality rates of malignant tumors in the district of Dalian from 2004 to 2013 were lung cancer, liver cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, breast cancer, leukemia, esophageal cancer, gallbladder cancer and bladder cancer in turn. In males, the top ten mortality rates of malignant tumors in the district of Dalian from 2004 to 2013 were lung cancer, liver cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, esophageal cancer, leukemia, bladder cancer, prostate cancer and gallbladder cancer in turn. In females, the top ten mortality rates of malignant tumors in the district of Dalian from 2004 to 2013 were lung cancer, colorectal cancer, liver cancer, gastric cancer, breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, leukemia, gallbladder cancer, ovarian cancer and cervical cancer in turn. The death cases were mainly concentrated in middle age group and elder group. They accounted for 95.92% of all cancer deaths. The death cases in elder group accounted for 67.36% of all cancer deaths, which the proportion was maximum. On the contrary, the proportion of the death cases in children and teenagers’ group was minimum, only accounted for 0.26% of all cancer deaths. There was little difference in the sequence of mortality rate of malignant tumors in different age group: leukemia was the leading site in children and teenagers’ group, however lung cancer was the leading site in young adults group, middle age group and elder group.3. The crude mortality rates of malignant tumors were on the rise in the district of Dalian from 2004 to 2013, rose from 211.99 per 100,000 in 2004 to 252.29 per 100,000 in 2013. The annual percent change(APC) was 1.308%(P<0.05). The crude mortality rates of malignant tumors in males had no obvious change. The annual percent change(APC) was 1.106%(P>0.05). The crude mortality rates of malignant tumors in females were on the rise, rose from 178.74 per 100,000 in 2004 to 191.83 per 100,000 in 2013. The annual percent change(APC) was 1.715%(P<0.05). The standardized mortality rates of malignant tumors declined in the district of Dalian from 2004 to 2013, declined from 137.87 per 100,000 in 2004 to 109.76 per 100,000 in 2013. The annual percent change(APC) was-3.632%(P<0.05). The standardized mortality rates of malignant tumors in both males and females showed a downward trend. The standardized mortality rates of malignant tumors in males declined from 158.77 per 100,000 to 133.91 per 100,000 during the ten years. The annual percent change(APC) was-3.825%(P<0.05). Meanwhile, the standardized mortality rates of malignant tumors in females declined from 117.41 per 100,000 to 85.62 per 100,000 during the ten years. The annual percent change(APC) was-3.149%(P<0.05).Conclusions:1. The crude mortality rates of malignant tumors in the district of Dalian from 2004 to 2013 are on the rise and the crude mortality rate of malignant tumors is significantly higher than that of the national average during the ten years, however the standardized mortality rates of malignant tumors show a downward trend and the standardized mortality rate of malignant tumors is slightly lower than that of the national average during the ten years.2. The top ten mortality rates of malignant tumors were lung cancer, liver cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, breast cancer, leukemia, esophageal cancer, gallbladder cancer and bladder cancer in turn. During the ten years, the top five mortality rates of malignant tumors have no obvious change, whereas the other five mortality rates of malignant tumors have a little change.3. For the top ten mortality rates of malignant tumors, they are higher in males than in females, except for breast cancer. Malignant tumors threaten more seriously to the health of males than that to the females.4. The middle-aged and aged people are the high risk population of malignant tumors death, therefore the health-care of them should be reinforced.
