Aim: To compare the therapeutic effect and the compliance between the patching therapy and the atropine penalization therapy for the treatment of amblyopia in children, and analysis the influence factors of their compliance.Methods:1) Object of study:From2012 to 2014, this retrospective controlled clinical trial,52 patients who were newly diagnosed monocular amblyopia in the First Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University. They were divided randomly into patching therapy group(group P)and atropine penalization group(group A). 2) The patients in the group P who were placed an occlusive patch over the non-amblyopia eye 2 hours a day. The patients in the group A who were applied atropine 1% in the non-amblyopia eye once every night. And the parents were told to notice the side effect of atropine. The children were re-checked every 3 months, at every follow-up visit, visual acuity were recorded, the parents were asked about the compliance and informed the importance of the full course, and adjust glasses if necessary.Result:1. In group P, the time that vision reached the basic criterion of cure was 17.10±1.11 month,in group A, the time was 18.30±1.36 month, there was no statistically significance between two groups,(X2 = 1.83, P>0.05); 2. In group P, the total effective rate was 92.30% at 6 months, in group A, the total effective rate was 61.54%, there was statistically significance between two groups,(X2 = 6.93, P< 0.05); 3. In group P, the total effective rate was 92.31% after 2 years visit, in group A, the total effective rate was 88.46%, there was no statistically significance between two groups,(X2=0.76, P>0.05); 4. In group P, the compliance rate was 38.46%, in group A, the compliance rate was 76.92%, there was statistically significance between two groups,(X2= 4.46, P < 0.05).Conclusion: The patching therapy seemed to improve the visual acuity quickly, but both of the methods can reach the best visual acuity at last. The compliance of atropine therapy is better than patching.
