Objective:Adenomyosis is defined as the presence of ectopic endometrial glands and stroma within the myometrium. Dysmenorrhea is one of the most common symptoms experienced by patients with adenomyosis. This research was developed to evaluate the expression of p75NTR in the uterine junctional zone(JZ), as well as their relationship with the severity of dysmenorrhea in patients with adenomyosis. Methods:Samples of JZ were collected from28adenomyosis patients(19patients in proliferative phase and9patients in secretory phase) and17uterine fibroids patients(10patients in proliferative phase and7patients in secretory phase). Immunohistochemical streptavidin-biotin peroxidase (SP) method was conducted to detect the expression of p75NTR in the endometrium and the uterine junctional zone(JZ). And the degree of dysmenorrhea was detected by Visual rating scale (VAS) before operation.Results:p75NTR both expressed in the endometrium and JZ, which was mainly located in cytoplasm. But in ADS group, p75NTR expressed with an higher level(both in endometrium and JZ),as compared with control group (P<0.05). Comparisons of primary end points, there was significant correlation between the expression p75NTR in endometrium and JZ of ADS group and the degree of dysmenorrhea in patients with adenomyosis (P<0.05),r=0.726,0.841. The expression of p75NTR in proliferative phase was stronger compared with secretory phase in two groups(P<0.05).Conclusion:The high expression of p75NTR in patients with adenomyosis was found to positively correlate to the degree of dysmenorrhea, showing that p75NTR may confer the occurence of dysmenorrhea of adenomyosis. And expression of p75NTR in proliferative phase was stronger than that in secretory phase in both endometrium and JZ,showing the expression of p75NTR may be related with menstrual cycle.
