Wendan Decoction For The Treatment Of Arrhythmia:a Meta Analysis

Objective:Arrhythmia can be seen in various kinds of diseases of the cardiovascular system. Modern medical treatment of arrhythmia was contradictory, because the drug therapy was cheap but had a lot of side effects, and non-drug therapy was difficult to popularize due to its high prize. At the same time, Chinese medicine treatment of arrhythmia became the research hotspot in medical field because of its small side effect and curative effect. This topic was to make an evidence-based appraisal to the common prescription-Wendan Decoction for arrhythmia.Methods:Formulate the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Studies published in the English language were identified from Medline, as well as studies published in Chinese were identified from journals of Chinese Periocical Fulltext Database (1979-2013),Chinese Bio-medixine Database(1990-2013), Wanfang Medical Database(1995-2013), VIP Chinese Technology Journal Full-text Database(1989-2013), The Outstanding Master’s Thesis Database with appropriate search strategies, besides, manual retrieval were also used. To determine the final literature through screening and full-text identification and extracted the data. The evidence qualities were classified and assessed by the grades provided by Cochrane and Jadad. Revman5.0was used for Meta Analysis. Main outcome measures included the improvement in symptoms, ECG and Holter.Results:Nine articles in Chinese were eligible, and all the articles’Jadad scores were less than2. The treatment group’s interventions were Wendan Decoction modified while conventional antiarrhythmic drug, similar efficacy medicine or nothing as blank control group. There were seven literatures compared the improvement in symptoms, the Meta Analysis results showed that RR=1.30,95%CI[1.20,1.41] which means the Wendan Decoction group has better symptoms improvement. There were seven literatures compared the improvement in Holter, while there were six literatures compared the improvement in ECG, the Meta Analysis results showed that RR=1.27,95%CI[1.17,1.39] in terms of the improvement in Holter, and RR=1.26,95%CI[1.16,1.37] in terms of the improvement in ECG, which means the Wendan Decoction group has better arrhythmia improvement.Conclusion:The meta-analysis revealed that compared with the control group, the Wendan Decoction group had better improvement in symptoms, ECG and Holter. This evaluation provides evidence-based support for the Chinese medicine treatment of arrhythmia. But randomized controlled trials of large sample and multi-center were needed to further confirm this point.
