The Relationship Between Male Youth With Seborrheic Alopecia And The Level Of Serum Androgen

Background:A great mane of thick black hair is the sign of health and beauty. However, more and more people are suffering from alopecia, which shows a low aging tendency. Now, many young and middle-aged males lost hairs on the top of the head and two temples. This type of alopecia is called Seborrheic alopecia (SA)or Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) commonly. We found that the number of young students who visited the hospital for alopecia is increasing year by year. Though the patients have no self-conscious symptoms, they always feel high psychological pressures because of appearance. At present,the treatment for alopecia are limited, early and proper treatments would help alleviate the gravity of alopecia. Objective:1) To dectect the level of serum androgen especially for DHT in patients with Seborrheic alopecia, discuss the role of androgen and clinical significance of male youth with alopecia.2)To test the change of serum androgen level in patients after therapy, discuss the influence of the serum androgen level by Finasteride. Method:1) The serum androgen were measured by the radio-immunity method in50male youths with Seborrheic alopecia and11normal controls.2)24patients from the above50patients were measured serum androgen level after taking Finasteride lmg a day for24weeks.Results:1) The results showed that the serum FT、DHT level in the patients were significantly higher than those in normal controls(P<0.05,P<0.01); There is no significantly difference in serum T level; The serum SHBG level was significantly lower than those in normal individuals; There is no significant difference among different severity grades of patients in serum levels of androgen.Conclusion:1) The important role of DHT in pathogenesis of Seborrheic alopecia is further confirmed.2) The results were in accord with the mechanism of Finasteride. The DHT showed inhibition of biological effect on hypothalamus-hypophysis-sexual gland.
