| Objective:To screen and apply sensitive facial aesthetic indexes to measure soft tissue changes before and after orthognathic surgery, summarize suitable facial aesthetic indexes of orthognathic surgery, to guide the clinical practice.Materials and Methods:This study evaluated14cases of orthodontic and orthognathic treatment of patients between January2007and July2013.Lateral photographs and radiographs were taken before and after orthognathic surgery. We selected the facial aesthetic indexes:facial contour angle(FCA), nasolabial angle, distance from zero meridian (O line) to Sn point, distance from O line to the Pos point, proportion of the middle third and the lower third of face, lower facial ratio, lip protrusion, mentolabial angle and mentolabial depth to evaluate preoperative and postoperative facial soft tissue changes of orthognathic patients. We made preoperative and postoperative lateral photos of14patients to become shadows through Photoshop CS8.0, these images were rated on7-point Likert scale by30oral medical students. Statistics were analyzed by using SPSS19.0statistical software. Results:4facial soft-tissue sensitive aesthetic indexes were lower facial ratio (p=0.001<0.01),distance from zero meridian (O line) to Sn point (p=0.012<0.01) distance from O line to the Pos point(p=0.013<0.01),FCA (p=0.013<0.01)through multiple linear regression analysis.Conclusions:lower facial ratio,distance from zero meridian (O line) to Sn point, distance from O line to the Pos point,FCA could be sensitive aesthetic indexes to evaluate the soft tissue changs of orthognathic patients. |
