Objective To assess the impact of heat wave on non-accidental mortality in Jinan China, and to investigate the impact of heat wave on mortality from non-accidental disease and respirato-ry diseases, circulatory diseases and acute myocardial infarction, cerebrovascular diseases and tumor, and to find the vulnerable people by sex and age when the maximum lag effect. Methods Mortality data, meteorological data and air pollution index data were collected on June-August for2009and2010to2012in Jinan. A time-stratified case-crossover design was used to assess the effects of heat wave on mortalities from non-accidental diseases and respiratory disease, tumor, circulatory diseases and the main cause-specific diseases, such as acute myocardial infarction, cerebrovascular diseases. Investigate the impact of heat wave on sex and age when the maximum lag effect. Results There were a total of16427non-accidental deaths during the276study days, daily average was59.52deaths. Among34heat wave days, there were2306deaths, daily average was67.82deaths.14121deaths in242non heat wave days, daily averag-e was58.35deaths. Significant relationship between heat wave and non-accidental mortality was observed, and also with the mortalities from respiratory diseases, circulatory diseases, cerebrovascular diseases and acute myocardial infarction. Significant delayed effects were observed on lag day2, day2, day1, day2for non-accidental deaths, circulatory diseases, respiratory diseases, and acute myocardial infarction, respectively. OR value and95%CIwere1.4177(95%CI:1.2330,1.6299),1.6297(95%CI:1.3352,1.9892),2.1282(95%CI:1.3223,3.4253),1.6307(95%CI:1.1081,2.3999) respectively. Effect on tumor and cerebrovascular diseases were found no significance, OR and95%CI value was1.1843(95%CI:0.9610,1.4596) and1.1762(95%CI:0.8020,1.7250) on the maximum lag day. There exist effect on female and male on mortality form non-accidental disease, circulatory diseases, male on respirator-y and acute myocardial infarction, but no effect on female. There exist no mortality effects on fe-male and male on cerebrovascular diseases. Heat wave effected between45and60and above75years old people. Conclusion Heat wave presented a risk factor for the public health in Jinan. Heat wave had larg-e impact on respiratory disease and followed was circulatory diseases. Heat wave had impact on male and female, who was vulnerable to mortality of non-accidental deaths and circulatory disease. Heat wave had impact on male, who was vulnerable to mortality of respiratory disease and acute myocardial infarction. Between45and60and above75years old people, who was vulnerable to mortality of non-accidental patients. Above75years old people, who was vulnerable to mortality of respiratory and circulatory disease. Government should be in accordance with Jinan meteorolog-ical characteristic and take corresponding measures to reduce health hazard to patients with respir-atory disease and circulatory disease and acute myocardial infarction disease.
