Objective:To investigate the relationship between serum MMP-9levels and cerebralinfarction, analyze the correlation of serum MMP-9levels and cerebral infarctionetiology, and learn the detection of serum MMP-9levels for evaluating the condition andprognosis of patients with cerebral infarction and its clinical significance. Methods:Eighty patients diagnosed by Head CT or MRI after the onset of acutecerebral infarction within48hours were selected as cerebral infarction group(groupCI).They were randomly divided into40cases of large-artery atherosclerosisgroup(group LAA) and40cases of cardiogenic cerebral embolism(group CCE) by theTrial of org10172in Acut stroke Treatment(TOAST).Another40healthy subjects wereselected as control group(group C).After their admission to hospital, fasting venousblood was collected to measure serum MMP-9levels by enzyme-linked immunosorbentassay(ELISA) method in the next morning. The results were analyzed by SPSS17.0package.Results:1.Serum MMP-9levels in group CI were higher than that in group C,and thedifference was statistically significant(P<0.01).2.While the difference of serum MMP-9levels in group LAA and group CCE was not statistically significant(P>0.05).3.Patientsin group CI were divided by National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale. It was found thatthe serum MMP-9levels had been positively correlated with NIHSS score(correlation coefficient r=0.583,P<0.01).4.Comparing the serum MMP-9levels according to theNIHSS score, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.01).5.From Logisticregression analysis we learned that MMP-9was relevant to multi-factor of cerebralinfarction(regression coefficient β=1.513,P<0.01).Conclusion:1. Serum MMP-9levels in patients with cerebral infarction weresignificantly higher than that in control group, suggesting that MMP-9may be involvedin the pathogenesis of cerebral infarction.2.The variation of serum MMP-9levelsbetween large-artery atherosclerosis stroke and cardiogenic cerebral embolism had nosignificant difference.3.Serum MMP-9levels in patients with cerebral infarction werepositively correlated with neurological deficits. It may indicate the severity andprognosis of patients with cerebral infarction.
