Acute cerebrovascular disease is one of the diseases which have seriously harmful effects on human health. Recent epidemiology datum show that, in our country, cerebrovascular disease ranked second in the causes of death of population only after malignant tumor. Furthermore, it headed the list in many cities. Homocysteine (Hey) is independently a scale risk for atherosclerosis. Mild and moderate high Hey was an independent risk factor which might cause chemic cerebrovascular disease. The study is aimed to investigate the relationship between Hey and TOAST classification in cerebral infarction, so that to provide basis to further clinical treatment.Abstract Objective:To investigate the relationship between the NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) score and TOAST classification in cerebral infarction with Homocysteine (Hey), meanwhile to estimate the clinical significance of Hey in cerebral infarction.Method The plasma Hey level of102patients with acute cerebral infarction was measured by enzymatic cycling method. All cases were divided into five groups according to TOAST classification and value of NIHSS score.1. Laboratory Examination Venous bloods were taken in the morning from the patients on empty stomachs3days after admission. Bloods of the control group, whom were on empty stomachs and without smoking and alcohol for12hours, were drawn on the day of examination. Hitachi7170automatic biochemical analyzer provided by Beijing Jiuqiang Biotechnology Co., Ltd. was used. Enzymatic cycling method was adopted in the measurement of the plasma Hey level. The control value of Hey consistency was (9.63±1.35) p.mol/L.2. TOAST Classification and NIHSS Score All the cases were classified with TOAST Classification method, and scored via NIHSS3days after being ill.Result There were significant difference between the plasma Hey level of patients with acute cerebral infarction of LAA in TOAST classification and NIHSS score. However, there was no significant difference between Hey and the other classification(LAA、CA、SOE、SUE).Conclusion High plasma Hey had correspondence with large-artery artherosclerosis. Moreover, the patients with type LAA were more serious than the patients with any other types after onset.
