Objective:Discussting the anatomy of mediopatellar plica of knee and the MRI performance ofplica syndrome, and comparing with arthroscopy, to provide morphological basis forclinical diagnosis. Researching the correlation between mediopatellar plica width and plicasyndrome, whether there are differences in the plica width between mediopatellar plicasyndrome patients and normal control group. By discussting the existence, morphologicalchanges and incidence of mediopatellar plica of knee, evaluating the value of MRI indiagnosis of knee joint mediopatellar plica and plica syndrome, in order to provide theimage support on clinical diagnosis of the disease caused by abnormal mediopatellar plicaof knee.Materials and methods:Collecting794patients of794knees with knee MRI examination in AffiliatedHospital of Taishan Medical University from July2012to November2013, there are169knees done MRI examination and arthroscopic surgery. Censusing the incidence ofmediopatellar plica of the794knees and discussing whether the incidence of mediopatellarplica is related to gender, knee side. With arthroscopy as standed, analysing the169kneeswhich both has MRI and arthroscopy examination data, to calculate the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of MRI examination onmedial patellar plica. At the same time, collecting20cases of40knees’ MRI examinationof healthy volunteers as normal control group (there are20knees exacting mediopatellarplica, it is seen as normal that existing mediopatellar plica but no clinical symptoms),analyzing whether there is any difference of the plica width between plica syndromepatients and healthy volunteers.Results:1. The sensitivity of MRI diagnosis in knee joint medial synovial plica is92.6%,specificity is94.6%, positive predictive value is95.7%, negative predictive value is90.9%. 2. The mediopatellar plica incidence of794knees in MRI examination is59.9%, andit has nothing to do with gender and knee side, the mediopatellar plica syndrome incidenceof169knees in arthroscopic surgery is21.9%.3. By chi square test, P<0.05, the mediopatellar plica width is related to theoccurrence of synovial plica syndrome, the larger plica width is, the greater possibility ofthe disease is. Though independent samples t test, P<0.05, the plica width between medialpatellar plica syndrome patients and healthy volunteers are differet.Conclusion:1. The accuracy of MRI diagnosis of patella medial synovial plica of knee is high, itcan provide valuable morphological information for clinical.2. The incidence of mediopatellar plica in this experiment is59.9%, as the incidencerate of mediopatellar plica syndrome is21.9%, consistent with the reported literatur of theworld.3. Mediopatellar plica width is correlated with the onset of mediopatellar plicasyndrome, the plica width between ediopatellar plica syndrome patients and normal controlgroup are different. There is a certain value of MRI in diagnosis of medial patellar plicasyndrome, medial patellar plica width can be used as a reference index in diagnosing ofplica syndrome.
