Purpose: In order to provide theoretical bases for nursing educators and managers toimprove the quality of nursing education, the investigations and analyses were conducted inunderstanding the situation of professional commitment, stress and coping style ofundergraduate nursing students in two medical schools in Changchun, comparing thedifferences in professional commitment, stress and coping style among these nursing studentsof different basic personal information, exploring the correlations among professionalcommitment, stress and coping style of nursing students.Method: This research adopted a method of stratified randon sampling. The anonymousinvestigation was conducted in296in-school undergraduate nursing students withDemographic Questionnaire, College Students’ Professional Commitment Questionnaire,Beck-Srivastava Stress Scale and Coping Style Questionnaire. After reorganizing the collectedmaterial, database was established in Excel and SPSS16.0software was applied tostatistical analysis.Result: The overall situation of professional commitment of undergraduate nursingstudents shows a medium level upper. Among them, the level of normative commitment is themaximum, while that of ideal commitment is the minimum. There are some differences inprofessional commitment of students among different schools, cultural degree of father,learning attitude, score ranking, way of major selection and those whether the one-child,which are statistically significant (p<0.05).Undergraduate nursing students have great mental stress.The main pressure source isfrom preparing and taking part in examinations, and secondarily parental expectations, familyeconomic conditions, employment interview, the competition among classmates and soon.The stress of male is higher than that of female.The stress of nursing students in A schoolis higher than that of in B school. The stress of those who don’t work hard is higher thanthat of those who work hard. The stress of those whose performance is a bit weak is higherthan that of those who is excellent. In times of trouble, undergraduate nursing students mainly adopt coping styles such asproblem-solving and assistance-seeking,and they are less likely to take coping styles such asrationalization, fantasy, retreat and self-accusation. There are some personal informationfactors that influence the choice of coping styles, including schools, grades, whether theone-child, family monthly income per capita, learning attitude, score ranking, Whether thestudent cadre and way of major selection.There exist correlations among professional commitment, stress and coping style ofundergraduate nursing students. Professional commitment of these nursing students isnegatively predicted by learning attitude, way of major selection, and coping style ofself-accusation.Coping style of problem-solving, schools, stress of preparing and taking partin examinations and factor of gender can positively predict the professional commitment ofundergraduate nursing students.Conclusion: Undergraduate nursing students have great mental stress, and theirprofessional commitment is at a lower level. They prone to choosing the active coping styles.There exist correlations among professional commitment, stress and coping style. Factors likelearning attitude, coping style of problem-solving, schools, way of major selection, stress ofpreparing and taking part in examinations, gender and coping style of self-accusation canpredict professional commitment of undergraduate nursing students.
