This article has utilized the researching method of philology and reviewed and settled the naming of the diseases, analysis on the etiology and pathogenesis, and summarization of the methods of syndrome treatment so as to try to trim the developing venation of this disease in the history of medicine in our nation.Secondly, it was found through the process of the cognition of western medicine on this disease that traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine were different in the conception of the disease and treating strategies in that traditional Chinese opines that alcohol intoxication is a series of diseases related to excessive drinking with various kinds of symptoms and every organs thus harmed, thus it is a kind of systematic disease. As to the treating methods, viscera recuperation was stressed, which includes strengthening the spleen and stomach and tonifying the liver and kidney. However, the western medicine has regarded alcoholism as a kind of mental disease, which is manifested as alcohol dependence or chronic alcoholic psychosis, and it had been stressed to treat by targeting the elimination of winebowl and mental symptoms caused by alcohol in addition to stressing the function of psychological treatment to reduce the possibility of reoccurrence of drinking.Lastly, it is more reasonable to propose the combination of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine for treating alcoholism through comparing the respective advantages and disadvantages of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine in treating alcohol alcoholism. On the one hand, the functions of viscera may be improved with traditional Chinese medicines to recuperate the status of the body so as to achieve the function of "treating the fundamental reasons"; while on the other hand, the methods of psychological treatment in which western medicine has been interested could target the wine bowl so as to strengthen the treating effect, reduce the rate ofre-occurrence of drinking so as to fundamentally and completely cure alcoholism and provide a brand new method and thinking for the treatment of alcoholism.
