Objective:The purpose was to explore the status of elderly patients with hypertension on self-perception aging and the quality of life and explore the effect of self-perception aging on the quality of their life, in order to help nurses to understand the degree of self-perception aging in elderly patients with hypertension, develop targeted interventions and provide evidence for improving their quality of lives. Methods:The objects of the study was choosed by the convenient sampling methods. 400 elderly patients with hypertension(145 patients from Department of Cardiology in First Affiliated Hospital of Suzhou University and the First People’s Hospital of Lianyungang, others from community hospital) were recruited during the November of 2013 to the December of 2013 and the November of 2014 to the February of 2015.We choosed the general information questionnaire, MOS 36-item Short Form Health Survey and Chinese version of Aging Perceptions Questionnaire to be our instruments. The status on the quality of life and self-perception aging and the effect of self-perception aging on the quality of their lives in elderly patients with hypertension were analyzed applying t-test, variance analysis, Spearman correlation analysis and multiple linear regressions.Results:1.400 questionnaires were given out, 376 questionnaires were available. The total scores of quality of life was 64.92±12.50.The scores of quality of life in “physical condition” and“mental status” were 61.94±15.09 and 67.78±12.84.2. In the dimensions of self-perception aging, “positive control” was highest score of3.60 ± 0.71 and “emotional representation” was lowest of 2.63 ± 0.77. In addition to“positive control” there was no correlation with “physical condition”(p> 0.05) and the rest of dimensions were correlation with “physical condition” and “mental status ”(p <0.05).Among this, the dimension of “positive outcome” was positive correlation, while“ acute/chronic time”、 “cycle time”、 “emotional representation” 、“negative outcome”and “negative control” were negative correlation. The dimension of “positive control”was positive correlation with “mental status ”.3. Multiple stepwise regresson analysis showed that: in the 7 dimensions of self-perception aging, “emotioal representation”、 “ acute/chronic time” and “negative outcome” impacted the physical condition of elderly patients with hypertension while“emotioal representation” and “positive control” influenced the mental status. Conclusion:The level of QOL in elderly patients with hypertension was lower than the general norm. The self-perceptionof Aging could effect the quality of life of elderly patients with hypertension, emotional representation and acute/chronic time had a great influence on the QOL in elderly patients with hypertension. Therefore, nursing staff should seek relevent intervention measures to help elderly patients build positive perception of aging, so that they can have a healthy life and improve their quality of lives.
