Objectives: To explore the effects of hypospadias on children’s social psychology and sexual psychology through the investigation on patients’ socio-psychological status and gender identity, our study focus on providing the basis for clinical psychological intervention of hypospadias. Methods: 156 patients of hypospadias who took the operation in our hospital from 2012 to 2014 were chosen to enroll in investigation,while the experiment group was consisted of only 75 of the 156 patients who completed the survey. The age of patients varied from 1 to 8 years. According to the educational background of patients’ parents, the experiment group was futher divided into three groups: junior high school and below(21 individuals), high school(32 individuals), college and above(22 individuals).According to their parents’ occupation, the experimental group was futher divided into two groups: workers and peasants(46 individuals), teachers and white-collar workers(29 individuals).The control group was consisted of 50 children of the similar age who undergone inguinal hernia operation in our hospital. Self-construct questionnaire, Achenlach Children Behavior Checklist(CBCL), Children’s temperament scale, and Gender Identity Questionnaire of Children(GIQC) were admitted in the investigation,and analysis were performed according to the results.Results:Of the 75 hypospadias cases enrolled in the investigation, the rate of the positive attitude towards the disease in different group divided according to parents’ educational background were 57%(junior high school and below)、62%( high school) and 90%(university and above),and it was significantly different among the three groups(P<0.05).Thirty(65%) of 46 patients’ parents who were peasants and workers took positive measures to deal with the disease, while it was 89% of the group of teachers and white-collar workers,and it was significantly different between the two groups(P<0.05).CBCL social capabilities scale survey data showed that, compaired with control group,the experiment group was significantly higher in depression factor(2.41vs0.6,P<0.05), hyperactivity factor(3.93vs2.62,P<0.05) and offensive factor(6.06vs3.26,P <0.05).In the children’s temperament scale, significant difference was found between the experiment group and control group in response intensity(3.93vs3.57,P <0.05) and note dispersion(4.05vs3.50,P<0.05). GIQC survey results showed that the score of experiment group was significantly higher than the control group(P<0.001). Conclusions: 1、The attitude to congenital hypospadias varies significantly among the parents who have different occupations or educational backgrounds, which could result in different influences on children’s social psychology and sexual psychology. 2、Congenital hypospadias impacts on children’s social psychology, such as depression, hyperactivity, aggression, high intensity of reaction, distraction, etc. 3、Congenital hypospadias has significant effect on children’s sexual psychology, mainly for obvious transgender behavior. 4、Attention to the changes of children’s mental and emotional reactions and psychological interventions should be given as earlier as possible, which may help to improve the quality of children’s social life.
