Objective:To observe the curative effect of electric acupuncture treatment for headache with depression. With the development of the society and the increase of social pressure, there are more and more patients with headache. Headache is divided into two types:primary headache and secondary headache. Secondary headaches occur in many diseases; Primary headaches include tension-type headache and migraine. Primary headache is a common clinical disease. In recent years, patients with headache plus depressive disorder are increasing, and seriously affect their physical and mental health. Electric acupuncture for the treatment of headaches and depression in previous studies had achieved good results.Methods:44 patients with primary headache associated with depression diagnosed by ICHD-Ⅱ and ICD10-F32 were enrolled. Self-reported depression scale (SDS), Hamilton depression rating scale (HAMD) and symptom scores of TCMwere evaluated. After getting "de qi", main points wereapplied byelectric acupuncture apparatus, and other pointswould be used hand-manipulating method every 10 minutes. Main points:"Baihui(Du 20)", "Fengchi(GB 20)", "Yintang(EX-HN3)", "Shenmen(HT 7)", "Neiguan(PC 6)", "Hegu(LI 4)", "Taichong(LV 3)". Corresponding points were added:Jueyin headache:"qianding(LV 3)";Yangming headache:"Touwei(ST 8)";Taiyang headache:"Tianzhu(BL 10)"; Shaoyang headache: "Shuaigu (GB 8) ".Needle retention was30 minutes each time, three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday or Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday), and a total of 24 times for8 weeks.Results:1. General informationThis study was included in 50 eligible patients, the loss of a case cases are 6. Including 13 cases of male, female 31 cases; Age 47.8±20.34; Duration 10.49±10.32.2. The effect on the baseline period significantly is lower than 4 weeks of treatment, but the following 12 weeks, the headache index is falling, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). It was proved that the electric acupuncture can improve the subjects’ clinical headache index.In terms of headache intensity, it fall slowly on overall trends. The effect on the baseline period significantly is lower than 4 weeks of treatment, but the following 12 weeks, the headache index is falling, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).It was proved that the electric acupuncture can improve the subjects’ clinical headache intensity.In terms of duration of headache, it fall slowly on overall trends. The effect on the baseline period significantly is lower than 4 weeks of treatment, but the following 12 weeks, the headache index is falling, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). It was proved that the electric acupuncture can shorten the subjects’ clinical duration of headache.In terms of number of headache, it fall slowly on overall trends. The effect on the baseline period significantly is lower than 4 weeks of treatment, but the following 12 weeks, the headache index is falling, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). It was proved that the electric acupuncture can improve the subjects’ number of headache.In terms of number of headache of TCM symptom integral scores and depression scores, it fall slowly on overall trends. The correlation between headaches and depressionThere are few the clinical reports about headaches and depression correlation studies.The research’s patients are complex headache sufferers, the first symptom is headache, accompanying by depression. Through this clinical research, it was found that headaches and depression have a certain correlation. Through analyzing the effect of electric acupuncture treatment of primary headaches, with prolonged treatment, headache index, intensity and duration of headache have been improved obviously, and electric acupuncture can significantly relieve clinical symptoms of traditional Chinese medicine. In the aspect of antidepressant, electric acupuncture also has significant curative effect. Weekly headache index and depression scores do correlation analysis it is concluded that the correlation is high.4. Safety evaluation ofDuring the period of clinical observation in this experiment, participants better compliance, has not been occurred adverse reactions and side effects associated with this test, the subjects’ vital signs before and after no significant changes, acupuncture in the treatment process is safe and reliable, no side effects.Conclusions:1. The electric acupuncture therapy for the treatment of primary headaches with depression has obvious curative effect;2. Before and after the treatment by Chinese medicine symptom integral and depression rating scale is found, it can improve the clinical symptoms of patients and accompanying symptoms, such as:headaches, upset, irritability, dizziness, chest tightness, fatigue, etc;3. In the aspects of improving patient headache index and duration of headache, TCM clinical symptoms and depressive symptoms, Electro acupuncture have a increasing curative effect with the increase of treatment time.4. Electric acupuncture is not only improving headache but also relieving the symptoms of depression. So for headaches associated with depression,electric acupuncture can avoid share the adverse effects of multiple drugs using.
