Objective:To investigate comprehensively the effect of deficiency arthromyodynia decoction on tansforaminal lumbar interbody fusion postoperative fusion rate in elderly patients with lumbar disc herniation from all aspects. Explore the clinical efficacy of deficiency arthromyodynia decoction on tansforaminal lumbar interbody fusion postoperative in elderly patients with lumbar disc herniation. Evaluate the safety of deficiency arthromyodynia decoction. Methods:Between September 2012 and December 2013,85 elderly patients with lumbar disc herniation were treated with modified transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) and the clinical data were analyzed, the patients were divided into therapy group with 43 cases and control group with 42 cases randomly, in therapy group there are 17 males and 26 females, and in control group there are 15 and 27.The therapy group was treated conventionally in addition deficiency arthromyodynia decoction on the fourth day after surgery.TCM syndrome improvement was evaluated by TCM syndrome scores. Clinical improvement was evaluated by JOA scores and VAS scores. Quality of life improvement was evaluated by ODI scores. According to the lumbar radiograph and three-dimensional CT scanning results, Lumbar interbody fusion was evaluated by the modified Brantigan scores. Results:There was no significant difference in age, sex, disease duration and affected segment between 2 groups(P> 0.05), be comparable. Patients were followed up for one year, during the follow-up period, in two groups the patients were no complications of screw loosening, screw breakage, endplate collapse and cage shift. There was no statistically significant difference in TCM syndrome scores, VAS scores, ODI scores in preoperative between two groups (P>0.05), be comparable. And there was no statistically significant difference in JOA scores in preoperative and three days after operation between two groups (P>0.05), be comparable. The TCM syndrome scores and ODI scores in three, six and twelve months after operation between two groups is significant difference(P< 0.05).The VAS scores in three months after operation between two groups is significant difference(P<0.05).The JOA scores and modified Brantigan scores in six and twelve months after operation between two groups is significant difference (P< 0.05).Conelusion:There are satisfied TCM syndromes and clinical symptoms in tansforaminal lumbar interbody fusion postoperative in elderly patients with lumbar disc herniation treated by deficiency arthromyodynia decoction, may ease the pain and improve the recovery of nerve function after operation, increase interbody fusion rate.
